Open - All year.
The cottage has many original features and two open fireplaces. It offers all modern conveniences, whilst retaining its charm and character. Situated at the end of a lane amongst 1 acre of grounds with a large pond, there is no passing traffic, making it a peaceful retreat.
The property sleeps 8 in 4 rooms with comfy king-size beds. There is a large bathroom and an additional shower room with endless hot water and fluffy white towels. Two of the bedrooms are on the first floor. The further bedrooms are in the attic up very steep stairs and so have charming sloping ceilings and a cosy feel. But please note that you have to be reasonably nimble to get up the stairs. The large living room and separate TV room both have open coal fires to cosy up to in the evenings or on rainy days. We've provided lots of books, games, toys and DVDs to keep you amused. Outside, our favourite feature is the huge bonfire pit where many guests have spent fun evenings. There is also a barbecue.
Situated between the Marlborough Downs, the Cotswolds and Salisbury Plain, the cottage provides an ideal, peaceful location for exploring this beautiful area and the surrounding picturesque villages of Castle Combe, Lacock, and Biddestone. Longleat Safari Park and House, the stones at Avebury, and of course, Stonehenge, are an easy drive away. The gorgeous, intriguing cathedral towns of Wells and Salisbury are also close by. The great houses and art treasures of Dyrham Park, Bowood, Lacock Abbey (where Harry Potter was partially filmed), Sheldon Manor and Corsham Court are within easy reach. Westonbirt Arboretum is a wonderful world of rare and unusual trees and well worth a day out. Only 9 miles away a visit to the spa city of Bath is a must with its wealth of Georgian architecture, museums, galleries, shops and the magnificent Abbey.
