About this property

Set at the heart of the bustling town of Hastings, East Sussex, lies this tasteful, two-bedroom holiday home, Mark the Artists House. Featuring well-preserved, rustic interiors with exposed wooden beams, and a wealth of nifty appliances, this property's central location is perfect for families or sharing friends looking for a fuss-free, self-catered stay near the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Inside, be charmed by a variety of well-maintained living spaces, including a well-equipped kitchen where the designated chef can prepare delicious feasts to be enjoyed at the dinner table, or perhaps gathered around the warmth of a centre-stage woodburning stove in colder months. In the evenings, be sure to indulge in a long, hot bath before retreating to one of two well-presented double bedrooms, each complete with plush bedding that waits to transport you to a state of tranquil bliss. In warmer seasons, take your morning cup of tea out into the beautiful rear garden, which comes with its very own summer house comprising two directors chairs that allow guests to start the day off in the most relaxing fashion. When you're ready, head into Hastings, where the attractions of Hastings Aquarium, the Hastings Miniature Railway, and The True CRIME Museum await eager tourists. For those seeking a more peaceful day out, the scenic spots of Ecclesbourne Glen, Alexandra Park and Hastings Country Park provide great places to walk, cycle, or even enjoy a quaint picnic. If you choose to venture into the High Weald AONB, be sure to stop by the landmark of Bodiam Castle, the National trust spots of Smallhythe Place and Scotney Castle, as well as the historic point of Bayham Old Abbey. Enjoy all of this when you book a stay at Mark the Artists House.

Hastings, a sizable ancient town, is divided into three sections and connected by a promenade. It offers a wide variety of interesting places to explore. The Old Town lies on one side and features charming homes, charming tall black net huts, charming tiny lanes or "twittens," a fresh fish market, seafood restaurants, and cafés. A modern shopping centre is in the middle, and on the opposite side is St. Leonards-on-Sea, which is known for its chic Norman Road, which is home to antique and vintage stores, art galleries, buildings by the renowned architect Richard Burton (of Kew Gardens and London Zoo fame), Marine Court Art Deco apartments fashioned after the HMS Queen Mary, and the wreckage of the Amsterdam, which is visible at Bulverhythe during low tide. Smugglers Adventure and Pelham Beach are located on West Hill in Hastings, while Hastings Country Park, 660 acres of ancient woodlands, grasslands, and heathlands that span five miles over cliffs and difficult terrain, can be found on East Hill. East Hill is also accessible by taking the "lift," the steepest funicular railway in Britain. Visit The Stade to see fisherman unload their catch while visiting Hastings. You could also visit the Blue Reef Aquarium and the ruins of Hastings Castle. Twelve miles away are the first Norman Church and the fourth-century Pevensey Castle. Enjoy the NT properties of Bodiam Castle, Sissinghurst, and Scotney Castle, Rye's cinque port, Battle Abbey, or the beach and dunes at Camber Sands if you're travelling farther afield.

Right in the old town, but on a very quiet street. In a few minutes I could walk to the beautiful country park on top of East Hill, to the castle, the fisherman’s quarter and the sea. The house itself had all I needed. It also had wifi and a hairdryer which was unexpected. It is not your average holiday cottage as you can clearly see on the foto’s. So if you like neutral it is probably not for you. To me it felt a bit like staying in the house of a friend who was away for a while. It is unique and interesting, maybe not completely spotless but not really bad either and I very much enjoyed to look at all those paintings. I loved the ones of the sea by the way, both in the sitting room and in the bathroom. The bed was fine, sofa too. There is a nice hot shower above the bath, but you have to check whether the switch is on, on the other side of the wall in the bedroom. Thank you Angela, it was lovely to meet you.

It was a bit like living in a second hand shop storage facility, with lots of unnecessary clutter; nice paintings though. We would not like to have attempted carrying a suitcase up the stairs, and then to find that there were no wardrobes/nowhere to hang clothes. The place would definitely benefit from a good clean.
