Guests say

Recroy is a charming cottage nestled in the Northern Highlands, offering tranquility, stunning scenery, and wildlife encounters. Guests appreciate its spaciousness, cosy atmosphere, and the seclusion it provides for a peaceful retreat. While some find the cottage and its furnishings to have a delightful character, others note that certain aspects require updating and maintenance.

The property is generally described as clean by guests, with specific mentions of its tidiness upon arrival. However, some guests noted areas that could benefit from deeper cleaning, likely due to the abundance of household items.

The location is highly praised for its stunning surroundings, tranquility, and proximity to nature and outdoor activities. It is considered ideal for those seeking a peaceful and remote holiday experience.

The cottage is often described as cosy and roomy, particularly for smaller groups. However, some guests mention that the beds are small for taller individuals, and there are comments about the need for better heating solutions during colder periods.

While the property is equipped with necessary facilities, several reviews point out issues with maintenance, such as non-working showers and inadequate heating. The need for upgrades in certain areas is a recurring theme.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the property owner towards the guests, therefore a score cannot be provided for this category.

About this property

Nedd 0.2 miles.

A single-storey detached cottage with spectacular views nestled on a remote hillside above the tiny hamlet of Nedd, along the western shore of Loch Nedd, 2 miles south east of Drumbeg. Offering comfortable well-equipped accommodation, this property is ideal for families wishing to really get away from it all and explore the area. There is an orchard garden, a haven for children, and a large lean-to play area means that even if it rains, they're well catered for. The numerous spectacular beaches along this coast make it a perfect seaside holiday base, as well as something of a birdwatcher's paradise, with the famous puffin colony and bird sanctuary on Handa Island close by. For hill walkers, Munro baggers and climbers, you couldn't be better placed for exploring Quinag, Suilven, Canisp, Ben More Assynt, Benn Stack, Arkle and Foinaven. With salmon and trout fishing available by arrangement, this property has something to please the whole family.

The small crofting township of Nedd (An Nead - Gaelic for nest) is situated on the north coast of the parish of Assynt. Ancient native woods surround Nedd, which overlooks Loch Nedd, a sea loch that's home to a wide variety of sea birds, seals and otters which appear occasionally. The famous colony of puffins at Handa Island is nearby. Nedd is an excellent base for hill walkers and climbers who are keen to explore Quinag, Suilven, Canisp, Benn Stack, Arkle, Ben More Assynt, and Foinaven. Trout and salmon fishing and stalking is available by arrangement on the many hill lochs for fishing enthusiasts. The Stoer Lighthouse, the renowned garden of Kerrachar, the caves of Assynt and the incredible geological feature of 'Moine Thrust', are all within easy reach of the holiday destination of Nedd.

House is comfortable, well-equipped and spacious. Some might find it too remote, but it was perfect for outdoorsy types like us (and our dog). We really enjoyed the freedom, tranquility and space offered by this house and its setting.

We were lucky enough to see aurora on our first night and watched a badger in the garden on our last night. We enjoyed it so much we have booked the cottage for the same week next year.

He did not respond to our emails, asking about key collection, so I had to call up. During the call I asked if we should bring our own table tennis balls (one of the reasons we chose this cottage is the table tennis is shown in the pictures). He told me the table had been damaged some time ago and when I said how disappointed I was, he sneeringly claimed that 'no-one books a cottage just for table tennis'. When I explained that it was one of the main reasons we had decided on this particular cottage and asked if the table could be repaired before we arrived, he dismissed this as 'impossible'. He did not offer any apology and did not reply to my follow-up email that politely requested at least a temporary repair. In the end, when we arrived we found that, although damaged, it was possible to still use the table. The cottage is well equipped, though not that well maintained. It is likely to be something inherited from the owner's parents as it still has everything a lived-in house contains. The housekeeper clearly makes a good job of trying to clean the property well between visits but inevitably with so much bric-a-brack around, there are areas that they can't get to. It would give a better holiday experience if the owner would remove all the 'rubbish' e.g. drawers full of broken bits of household equipment and DIY stuff - this would make it easier to clean and it would feel less like living in someone else's house.
