  Went to “The Barn” as a base for Rugby League Magic Weekend, we didn’t go for sightseeing.. Received a phone call from Wendy (host) before we set off asking what kind of milk we’d like in the fridge.. Got lost Wendy came out in her car so we could follow her back.. What more could you ask??, Wendy had gone the extra mile twice and we hadn’t even stepped through the front door.. Wendy called us whilst out asking permission to let a man in to look at carpets, she could’ve just let him in we’d never of known.. The Barn is a lovely place to stay, very well equipped, bedding is pure white and pristine, everything you need and more besides in the kitchen, the lounge is spacious and comfortable with perfect little touches here and there.. Internet connection is fantastic.. I work for a Charity and was supporting my travelling companion to watch the rugby.. He’s already asked me if we can go to The Barn next year, in addition I fully intend to visit again with my family.. Lovely, lovely place, with an exceptional host.. No interacting with a Keysafe here..

  Wendy could not have been more kind and helpful. She rang the day before and very kindly bought some items for our breakfast. The cottage was clean and well-presented. The snag is that it was next to a dual carriageway which was the main arterial route in and out of Sunderland. I was unable to sleep in one of the double bedrooms as it was about 5 meters from the road so I slept in a single bed in the third bedroom which was quieter. Nevertheless, I was awake by 6am at the latest during the weekdays and 7am at the weekend. I had not known this when I booked it. I made the best if it but I was exhausted by the end of our week's stay. Other reviewers have not mentioned this so I can only assume they are used to busy roads. I live in the country and I am used to silnce at night.

  Did not enjoy the on street parking, as sometimes had to park quite away from the property. The property was lovely but having used homes like this for some years, was mildly disappointed that we only had on towel left each for use, so had to go out a buy a bath sheet for each of us as well. No folder of information about how appliances work etc, so it was trial and error with keeping fingers crossed. Some minor housekeeping issue too, like the handles on the bedroom doors kept coming off, no place to store clothes in the 2nd bedroom, had a shelf! No lock on the bathroom door.But overall it was a lovely property and we did enjoy our stay.

  Enjoyed our stay in this cottage which is more than dog friendly. Great location with excellent pubs, restaurants and takeaways on the doorstep. Lovely walks in the area, we hardly used our car the whole week. Close to several lovely beaches, loads to see and do, or just great for a relaxing break and local pub crawl. It has everything you need and is warm, comfortable and cosy, great little area outside for the dogs or to sit and chill with a drink, comfortable furniture and bed. The stairs are steep but we knew they would be. All bed linen, towels etc were good quality and spotless, I’ll definitely be back.

  We needed a place to stay whilst having some building works on our home, and this was 5 minutes from our house, so really convenient. It's set on a working farm and our 2 year old loved to watch the horses in the fields. Wendy the owner lives next door and was extremely helpful, nothing was too much bother, the barn was well equipped with anything you could need, a real home from home. I particularly enjoyed the complimentary prosecco! It's so dog friendly, we felt we could really settle in, towels and dog bowls were provided. The log burner was just an added delight! :)
