About this property

Perched on the hillside above Peñiscola, this wonderful villa enjoys stunning views, with several terraces that provide the perfect, wonderful setting to relax with family and friends whilst making the most of the wonderful Mediterranean climate.

Located off a quiet residential street, Villa Castellon enjoys a prime setting opening up to panoramic views down to the coast. Arranged over several levels, the property is nestled into the hillside, with several terraces that spill out from the typical whitewashed facade. The main living room is bright and spacious, with an impressive window that runs along the front of the room, offering a spectacular perspective down to the town and sea. To one side, a large corner sofa offers a comfortable place to sit, whilst to the other, a smart dining table has ample space for all the guests. To the rear of the room, a modern kitchen is well-equipped, with a smart marble counter and modern fittings, whilst outside, a brick barbecue with a delicious spread is great for entertaining guests. The terrace is perfect for making the most of the warm climate, and guests can enjoy a coffee in the morning sun or dine alfresco whilst admiring the wonderful surroundings. A set of stairs leads down to the lower terrace, where an impressive pool invites you to take a refreshing swim, whilst a row of loungers nearby are perfect for drying off in the sun and reclining beneath the clear blue skies.

There are six bedrooms in total, each well-presented with thoughtful decor and comfortable double beds. The main bedroom features a beautiful ensuite, whilst double doors to the front of the room open out onto a private terrace. Leave the doors ajar to enjoy a fresh breeze throughout the night, waking up to wonderful views of the sea without having to get out of bed.

Situated on the hillside, on the edge of the beautiful Serra d'Irta natural park, Villa Castellon enjoys an elevated position, assuring a splendid perspective whilst still being a short drive from the coast.

Less than a 10-minute drive from the villa, the town of Peñíscola is a popular resort known locally as 'The City of the Sea'. The pretty town is distinguished by its fortified seaport and lighthouse that sit atop a rocky headland connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. Dating back to the Iberians, the town is rich in history, and you can visit the castle or wander through the charming old town with its cobbled streets and whitewashed houses. Be sure to walk down Calle San Roque to admire the colourful doorways and balconies, which have been elaborately painted and adorned with plants and flowers, or visit the El Faro lighthouse and enjoy the view along the coast. It is also worthwhile to stop off at the beautiful Església de l'Ermitana, which is dedicated to the patron saint of Peñíscola.

The Valencian region is known for its produce, and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy traditional cuisine. Restaurants and bars are dotted throughout the town, where you will find typical plates of tapas as well as wonderful dishes of fresh seafood. Owned by a local fisherman, Taberna El Anforna is a cosy spot in the old town, where you can try local specialities such as baby cuttlefish or sea urchin tortilla or head to the popular El Caracol to enjoy a classic dish of paella. Alternatively, just a short walk from the villa, Restaurant Perla Blanca is a wonderful place for lunch, with a menu that celebrates the best local produce, which you can enjoy whilst admiring views down to the coast.

For those looking to spend the day beside the sea, the Playa Norte extends for nearly 5 km with a wonderful stretch of golden sand and crystal-clear sea that is perfect for a swim. A paved walkway runs adjacent to the beach, and there are a handful of cafés and kiosks where you can stop for a drink or enjoy an ice cream whilst looking out over the sea. To the southern end of the town, the Playa del Sur offers a smaller beach where you can rent pedalos to paddle out and explore the bay or hop in the car and head along the coast to discover some of the smaller coves.

We love the interiors of the villa. Very modern, simple yet stunning. The pictures just don’t do it justice. The villa is very clean and spacious. Each floor has its own access to view the historic town of Peñíscola and the beach. We had breakfast served by Paul on the terrace and that was wonderful. Great meal with amazing views of the whole town, the blue sky and beach, the golden sun shing on our skin and the breath of fresh air in the morning. Such an amazing feeling! We had gone to a different restaurant here and they all had amazing food. Few names we tried are Musclarium (fresh oysters, mussels and great wine served on a floating platform at a mussel farm), Restaurante El Pinar (restaurant on top of the mountain with great seaview), La Mar Salá, Mandarina Club. A huge thank you to the owner Antonio and his staff Paul for being so kind and helpful throughout our whole trip.

Villa Castellon is more breathtaking in person than the photos show! The views are spectacular, and the interior is modern and bright. Will never forget the banquet of a breakfast we had overlooking the sea. It’s also really easy to explore the town of Peniscola nearby and the rest of the coast. Definitely recommend the boat tours!
