What our customers say about their holidays
Mrs Baddeley-Clark - Verified booking
Rock Rose Cottage is very well appointed, clean, tidy and nicely refurbished. Lots of useful space, to suit a family or sets of friends. There is a very pleasant courtyard to the rear which I'm sure is beautiful to sit in during the summer. (We visited in December). The property is set over three floors, and some may find the stairs steep, so bear this in mind when making your selection. The lounge is light and bright, with the most tremendous view, a big reason why we book on this side of Irsha Street. All three bedrooms have lots of storage, both bathrooms are modern and the dining room to the front of the property is snug with lots of room for six to sit around the table. The kitchen wants for nothing and there is another table here, but the chairs are high which some may find difficult. There is no parking at the property, but two car parks are nearby, and use the RingGo app which works well, and is a reasonable price. Irsha Street is very narrow, so if you offload your vehicle outside, be prepared to move on so as not to hold others up. There are two pubs further along, so expect delivery drivers to need access.

Don’t let the external approach put you off as the interior more than makes up for it. This is more of an appartment than a cottage, with the property accessed down a passageway and the main door leading into an utility area and downstairs shower room with stairs up to open plan kitchen/lounge/dinner, a small toilet room and two bedrooms. When we arrived the heating was full blast and it was very warm but we just turned it down and opened windows. I imagine however it could be very hot in hot weather. There is no outside space but you are on the doorstep of Appledore and the quay area so it wasn’t missed. The property has no views as such, and rather looks out onto neighbouring roofscapes but we didn’t find that a problem and in fact made it even more private. The property is extremely well kitted out with everything thought of. It is lovely, modern and clean with plenty of room for our family of four and dog. The location is great and we were lucky to get parking on the road outside most days. All in all a great property for a week’s holiday exploring what North Devon and Cornwall has to offer.

We’d often seen this cottage as we stay in Appledore frequently. We couldn’t believe our luck when we found out it was available! Ideally situated for both families and a quiet getaway, the cottage is next-door-but-one to the famous ‘John’s’ deli, cafe and shop. A word of warning though, their stuff is so good, you’ll be a frequent customer! The cottage has a lovely little courtyard where we would sit and watch the world go by until after dark. Great sea views and perfect for early morning and late evening strolls. Inside it’s very roomy, light and really well-equipped. Beds are comfy, shower/wet room is great too. Smart TV meant our kids could watch Netflix when they came down in the morning. The communication from Dave and Lainey was personal, thoughtful and made us feel like friends not tourists. We loved the place and we will definitely be back again. If you are looking for the perfect getaway in Appledore, you won’t find a better one than this.

The inaccuracy in the house description mainly lies in the fact the two double beds were actually small doubles (queen size) ans therefore unsuitable for 2 adults. Onw of our guests slept on an air bed. Other beds in the house were very soft, affecting our sleep. The house did not feel properly equipped as a holiday home. Many small details such as no hairdryer, a room with no light bulb so no source of light, nowhere to store clothes as drawers contained the families books, clothes etc. No bins in the annexe bedrooms or bathrooms. Pool maintenance was inadequate, therefore it turned green and very cloudy and was unusable for 2 days. Towels were very thin and barely possible to dry oneself but thankfully we'd brought our own pool towels so used these instead. But the house has a lot of potential as a holiday home and the grounds and tennis court were fantastic.

A lovely cottage right in the heart of Appledore we loved being positioned right up one of the lovely little streets just a street away from the front quay. It was very tastefully decorated with lots of nice accessories definitely home from home. Lounge room area was very comfortable and spacious for those chilling in nights. We didn’t do a lot of cooking as we took advantage of the local eateries but the kitchen is very well equipped. Not far from the local car park which we were able to purchase a weekly parking ticket and never had any issues finding a parking space. We did find a festival type trolley under the stairs towards the end of the holiday so that helped with carrying luggage back and forth from the cottage to car park.
