What our customers say about their holidays

    What a find!

We've just returned from a weeks stay at this beautiful cottage. The hosts, Ian and Jane are very friendly and helpful. They are very busy people but will always take time to answer any questions we had. The setting is fantastic with wonderful views of the Welsh countryside. There are animals on site, some rare breed Jacobs Sheep a couple of pigs and some chickens and ducks. The wildlife in the area, especially the bird life, is plentiful and is great to sit back and watch their antics on the bird table. The River Cain runs through the site and I was lucky enough to catch my first ever Grayling along with 2 trout and lots of minnows. The cottage is spotless and has everything you might need, or want, for your stay. There is a small shop onsite selling their own bacon, sausages and eggs. Some other basics are available. As well as the cottage there is also a Tepee and a Yurt, a Cabin and 2 pitches for tents. Across the road there are a number of tent pitches for wild camping. 3 pubs in the nearest village, a Spar and a Morrisons petrol station/supermarket. There is also a café, a chippy and an Indian. Easy travelling to various points of interest in the area. Will we be back? Absolutely. Cannot recommend The Old Beams at Pont-Y-Forwyn highly enough. Thank you Ian and Jane for a very relaxing stay.

From arrival to departure of The Old Beams everything was excellent.

Every detail was perfected in the cottage. The kitchen had everything we needed and more! The bed was insanely comfy, the bedroom curtains kept all the light out, there was a hanging rail to store clothes and a hairdryer provided! The bathroom was beautifully equipped with everything you would need for a stay here, there was a little box with shampoo, conditioner, cotton pads, makeup wipes, soap and sanitary products which We thought was an excellent touch. Ian was the best host, he was friendly and knowledgeable, and the site was beautiful! On arrival there was a goodie bag for our dog with treats, dental chews and poo bags in which was so lovely, and dog blankets in the chest of drawers! We also had a freshly baked loaf of bread, 4 home made cakes, eggs from their chickens, milk and butter all waiting for us! There is a small kitchenette on site for the few campers which they sell items at for a great price with an honesty box, like home made jams, chutneys and eggs from their chickens! They also had the most friendly pigs opposite the house which gladly disposed of any leftovers and we spent lots of time tickling their bellies! We cannot wait to book again, and enjoy some wine in the sunset shack , overlooking the lovely views and sunset. Thanks so much for having us, 11 out of 10!

Super little hideaway for active couples with lovely ever changing views in an area suitable for day trips to coast and country including Barmouth, Snowdonia national park and more locally Powys Castle.

We enjoyed seeing the family’s sheep over the fence and especially the birds coming and going from the bird table which was replenished regularly. Accommodation was very covid clean and organised and well equipped for self catering use as well as being close enough to the village eateries. Furnishings and decor of a high standard throughout. Owners were excellent in orientating us to the village facilities and further destinations and were very friendly ,welcoming and helpful with queries. We enjoyed their hospitality and produce of their own sausages and eggs- and brought some home with us to remind us of our stay. We will definitely be visiting again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others.

    Perfect accommodation and fantastic location.

Couldn't want any more with the accommodation. Quiet rural location, great views, underfloor heating so nice and warm in October, comfy beds, everything you need in the kitchen, great wet room, always lots of hot water and a good signal for the TV. For those concerned about wifi, there was enough for 3 of us to access emails/social media/game/make bookings etc. There wasn't a phone signal, but we have EE wifi calling, but there was a signal just up the road. The location is fantastic for exploring North Wales, with great walks on your doorstep, especially Bryn Alyn, which is a must - and if you can't walk up/down steep hills, there is a gentle walk to the top from Pant Du Road.

The Old Beams is very welcoming and so are the hosts.

Everything was as described except there is no enclosed area for a dog. However the fact that you only had to walk out of the door and you are instantly on a walking trail is delightful. The cottage is well equipped with everything needed for your stay with a welcome pack of bread, butter, milk, eggs, etc. They also leave a doggy welcome pack which is a nice touch but the icing on the cake is the chocolates left on the bed. This is a delightful holiday cottage which is central to many places. I would recommend the Old Beams to anyone looking for a quiet peaceful location to spend time with the opportunity to travel out for sightseeing if you so wish.
