What our customers say about their holidays
Joanne - Verified booking
The house is beautiful in a stunning location.
We booked for a family reunion so we werenât looking to be out all day and the house was perfect in every sense bar two, hence the 4* rating. The first and most difficult was the internet. We all have jobs that we were unable to just drop and the internet was practically nonexistent. It turned what should have been an incredibly relaxing stay into rather a stressful one. It appeared to be shared with the other houses too so during the day it was virtually impossible to get a signal. The first two days we had no internet at all until one of our party attempted to fix it, which gave us at least some connectivity but so limited if anyone else was using it, including neighbours, it wouldnât work. We had to constantly leave the house to work, or at 3am! There was no enclosed area for the dogs which was manageable but we had to keep them on leads if we were outside and keep the door shut at all times if we werenât. There is an area that is supposed to be enclosed but has massive gaps in the fence meaning any size of dog could get through them. The furnishings were all well maintained and it really is a beautiful house. If it wasnât for the internet it would be a definite 5* but the constant frustration, for the kids too who couldnât sit and watch their tablets at anytime. There are televisions in virtually every room but very few of them actually worked. We loved the incredibly well equipped kitchen and dining area as we cooked every evening.

The property was lovely with great views of the River Dart, but our stay was let down by the innaccuracy of the listing and subsequent poor communication with regards to parking, and issues accessing the property upon arrival.
We booked via Vrbo and had shortlisted a number of properties in Dartmouth, but opted for Ty'r Ddraig because of the listed 'onsite parking' under the Property Amenities. However, upon booking we were instructed to register a Sykes account for the booking confirmation, on which we found out that the onsite parking was no longer available, and instead replaced with a parking permit for the Mayor's Avenue car park - which turned out to be a 10 minute walk away from the property and extremely busy at peak times, so not always guaranteed a space. When we found out about the parking we messaged Sykes via the 'Contact Host' option on the Vrbo app to get details about how far the car park was from the property, and whether a space would be guaranteed, but never got a reply. We then phoned and couldn't get any answers so decided to just play it by ear when we arrived. When we did arrive for 5pm check-in there was no key in the keysafe so we had to phone Sykes, who then had to contact the local agent to come with a spare key to let us into the property. In all it was sorted within 30 minutes or so, but wasn't the best start stood outside the property with all our bags, etc. on top of the let down with the parking. In summary, lovely place to stay, but need to change the misleading listing on Vrbo with regards to onsite parking, improve comms when contacted, and check there is a key in the key safe before people arrive for check-in.

After a difficult cross country journey to Dartmouth, trying to find the office, house and car park, we then couldnât get any heat on.
I had mentioned it to someone at the office, by phone as we were late arriving, because heating issues had already been stated in a review. She assured me that it had been resolved, but clearly it hadnât. After eventually locating the boiler, we had to phone for assistance as there was no pressure. It took a very long time to speak to someone, but a man then quickly arrived, fixed the problem and showed us how to control the heating. The noisy plumbing also needs to be addressed. There were stacks of cushions which some people might appreciate, but were a nuisance to us. My husband and I slept in the front bedroom the first couple of nights, but we moved to the back bedroom due to the smell of the bed and outside lights waking up the birds during the night. Unfortunately, there was no improvement with the smell and the bed was too hard for our liking. Otherwise, everything we needed was there, plus outside facilities which we didnât use and pretty Christmas decorations. We had a lovely stay overall, but we would not come again due to hiking up and down hills and steps. It would be beautiful in summer, but no doubt packed with visitors too!

We really enjoyed our week at Crew House.
It was very clean and nicely decorated. The kitchen is well stocked and probably the best weâve had in years of self catering holidays. The beds were comfy and the shower was nice and hot. The walk up from the car park is steep at the end, and the stairs to get to the front door are also steep, but hand rails help. We didnât have the weather on our side so didnât get to use the small terrace unfortunately, but the living room was very comfy. My husband particularly likes the little chair so now we are on a hunt to find one for our house! There is a good selection of games, books and DVDs. The tv is not a smart tv, so no access to anything like Netflix, which would have been nice given the terrible weather, but we made do. The only point Iâd raise is that the wardrobes in the front bedroom smell like cigarette smoke. I donât know if this is coming from next door, but perhaps an odour neutraliser inside would help? We would highly recommend a stay here, it was perfect for our family (2 adults, a child l, a toddler and a small dog) and we wouldnât hesitate to stay here again.

We had a very nice few days at Crew House.
Location is particularly great. HOWEVER, on the last night as I was getting into bed, I noticed a small black bug crawling in the duvet. I looked around and noticed there was a quite a few more on the base of the divan beds in the twin room, as well as in the carpet, and on the curtains. It really unnerved me as I cannot cope with creepy crawlies! It really ruined my holiday to be honest. I didnât think it fair to write a review initially, so I e-mailed Sykes direct, however they offered absolutely no apology and said they would pass it on to local team. I recently received another e-mail from them, clearly sent in error, which was meant for someone else who also stayed at Crew House. Coincidentally, they had also complained about bugs in the house, which Sykes are claiming are âgrains of dirtâ - dirt does not crawl? As there was no apology, no action taken, and Iâm obviously not the only one who has experienced this, I felt I had no other option than to write this review and make others aware.
