What our customers say about their holidays
Alice - Verified booking
We ere a family group having taken three cars, son in law arrived first and was greeted by owner and she was very nice, my daughter arrived later with our granddaughter who has special needs, and we arrived by 10 pm.
I had booked the house and thought at least the owner could have come to meet me, we did not even have a small carton of milk or anything to start us off as we could have chosen many places that at least have some sort of welcome pack, just as well we came prepared. We were told nothing about the property as to workings etc we had hot towel rails the first morning but after that they were cold, the hot tub had no switch to turn off, we did not know if it was automatic, I did not use it but my granddaughter loved it, her mum took her in one evening, the weather was horrendous but to keep her happy they went in, there was a clip to hold the lid together but it was broken and that night there was a blustery wind the cover was blown open and we did not notice as it was around the side of the property, I was going out with my dogs to be greeted by a very rude man, donât know who he was moaning about the hot tub which I had no clue about. Night before leaving my son in law politely asked if we could charge my car as the local charger did not work and he was told he had already used too much electricity etc the owner was very rude and turned his back, my son in law tried to explain that he had closed the hot tub, the gale we had that night must have blown open the top of the hot tub, why would he leave it open deliberately? He is very careful. On leaving my daughter took off her bedding and I commented that she should not take off pillow protectors she told me the bed was not made up no duvet cover or pillowcases, they had decided to give my granddaughter the bedroom with the en-suite as she has special needs but I did not know the bedroom they were in was not made up or I would have questioned the owners as they knew there were six of us. The house is lovely and well furnished and has most things you need. Beds are comfortable and towels provided are huge and lovely and soft. There could have been hooks on the bathroom doors that would be handy for dressing gown etc, no toilet roll holders and no grab rails in showers, showers were good if you wanted an overhead drench shower but handheld one should really have a swivel holder so that you could aim water without having to hold the shower head, my disabled husband had great difficulty with this, there could have been a shower seat, we brought our own. There was liquid soap in bathrooms, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and cloths, no coffee machine but a cafetière was provided. On reading the listing I imagined a lovely walk along the beck with a proper pathway hoping that my disabled husband could use his mobility scooter but you are tramping through a field dodging sheep poo and as we had so much rain we were just walking in mud. This is not a place for children as nothing to do not even a swing park. North Yorkshire villages and towns are beautiful but this is a place for serious hill walkers. The rude owner should be ashamed of himself as the incident with the hot tub was not deliberate as we as a family who respect other peoples property.

We enjoyed our stay and the location was perfect with great walks from the barn.
Plenty of amazing sights and places to visit all within an hour drive. We found the barn lovely and comfortable to stay in with a well equipped kitchen and lovely lounge to relax in with a blazing fire in the evening. Without the fire the lighting in the lounge is quite dark with only 2 wall lights and 1 standing lamp. My sons loved the Wii and the vast amount of games they could play. However from reading the visitor book we noticed that comments from last year had not be addressed by the owners. The hot water was still scalding and the shower in the shared bathroom was erratic to use, all mentioned in reviews. We also didn't realise, from the writeup, that the day bed was in a room you had to go through to access the 2 double bedded room. This made it awkward for the person sleeping in the room as you had to always walk through their room to also use the toilet in the night. The double bedroom has no wardrobe or chest of drawers to put clothes in, we had to either keep our clothes in our cases or put them in the many wardrobes in the other bedrooms. I can't ever remember staying anywhere without clothes storage in a bedroom. This is a shame as if these had been addressed would have been an amazing place in a fantastic location.

The good: - Great location for Malham and the Pennine Way - Lots of space in living areas and two of the bedrooms - Clean The bad: - Lacking some basics (scissors in the kitchen; saucepans big enough to cook basics for 4) - Very small and compromised bathrooms - In poor state of repair in places (large glass shower door held on with silicone, and fell off; bad smell from drains; TVs in bedrooms not working) - Layout of outdoor space leads to a total lack of privacy in garden (which is shared with the neighbouring cottage). For example, the Hot Tub is placed just a few feet from the one belonging to the neighbouring cottage, meaning no privacy if the neighbours use theirs at the same time. (Especially so if you have neighbours who spend their time smoking, drinking, swearing, shouting and arguing in the hot tub!) We eventually cut our stay short and came home a day early. The owner did offer a partial refund, reflecting some of these issues, but this has never materialised and he has since stopped answering messages asking him to honour his promises.

My family and I had a multi-generational holiday in this stunning holiday property.
One of our group is disabled, and the ground floor bedroom with its en suite was ideal. We had two dogs with us, and much appreciated the enclosed garden to let the dogs out without having to lead them up and take them for a toilet break in the early morning. The dog exercise facilities were superb - there was an enclosed dog field and a running circuit - they had a great time chasing the ball into the stream, and longer walks were available. The hot tub was fabulous - clean, bubbly, relaxing - terrific at night, with its lighting, and great during the day, after a day's walking or sight seeing. The kitchen facilities were great - everything you need, and the nearby supermarket, Booths, provided food of M&S standard, for home cooking. Wi fi was great, the smart televisions had a range of streaming channels, including Netflix. The only suggestion I have for improvement is for the owner to build a swimming pool - that would be the icing on the cake!

Agreeing with all that has been said before the location and facilities of this Craven Cottage has been first class. I cant believe its only 3 stars we are certainly going to book again. We had a great week using a North West rover on the railway and also sampling various bus routes. The Saturday bus to Harrogate and the Sunday bus from Grassington to Hawes were particularly scenic and interesting. We mostly catered for ourselves but would recommend Bizzy Lizzies for fish and chips. Skipton has many bakers shops that you are spoilt for choice but pastries from Thomas's were very good. As for doing your washing try the Express Laundromat on Sackville Street a seven minute walk away and the staff were very helpful , they give change for the machines and you can buy soap there. WE hope you will enjoy your stay in this delightful cottage as we did
