The pretty port of Eyemouth is still bustling with fishing activity as it has been for centuries, and it's a lovely place to spend a short break to Scotland. The maritime heritage of this town is strong. Gunsgreen House once a famous merchants home, is open to the public and now a popular place to visit on any trip here. The Eyemouth Museum is also an interesting spot and home to the wonderful Eyemouth Tapestry which was made in commemoration of the Great East Coast Fishing disaster in 1881.
For a more in depth history of maritime happenings, the Maritime Centre is worth a visit. Needless to say, with such great fishing activity, there are several fishmongers within the town, as well as many excellent place to eat a wide selection of foods. There is a sandy beach and golf course here too, perfect for whiling away a sunny afternoon.
