What our customers say about their holidays
Tanya - Verified booking
This was meant to be a very relaxing family holiday.
We found on arrival that the lodge was in very poor condition. There was pet and human hair in the carpet and in the draws! The property had a very offensive smell of a stale/mould. The cupboards in the kitchen gave off an awful musky smell. Myself and my disabled mother spent the first day cleaning the whole place and yet the property owners failed to have a decent working hoover or alternative dust pan and brush forcing me to clean the floor on my hands and knees! The hoover smelt so bad when switched on the bag has clearly never seen the light of day! It was like 50 pairs of old smelling socks! Needless to say I am extremely dissatisfied with the experience of our stay. No one should have to have gone on holiday only to have to spent the first few hours cleaning! I had to buy my own air fresheners to help keep the bad smells at bay. We were keen to leave the lodge on a daily basis but sadly the weather was not on our side and we spent many a rainy day in the lodge. The other thing is if it rains you have nowhere to dry your washing. A clothes horse would have been really handy! The place on a whole was not very inviting. The only decent thing was the hot tub. However I will point out that two of the head rests were missing and one day the owner left his bag of chemicals lying around and forgot to switch the hot tub back on. I have a young 3year old who luckily didnât get hold of these chemicals. The owners were made aware of all of these matters but nothing was done to compensate us. The outside bbq was rusty and full of old coal which again the smell was just horrendous, safe to say we didnât use this but it would have been nice to have had the option given it was advertised as having a bbq. The sofa bed is just awful! It is made up of springs and no padding, this is not fit for anyone to sleep on and my daughter complained each evening from how uncomfortable it was! On the last day the owner called and left me a voice message to say a new WiFi router was being installed. We came back to the lodge to find a new router but no instructions on what the new password was so we had no use of the telly or WiFi connection which was very disappointing! The mobile number I had been emailed wasnât connecting and the office was closed. All in all a dry disappointing stay at Keylow and I would like to be compensated for spending a week feeling miserable in a holiday lodge with misleading pictures and information on your website.

Pebbles in Portreath is a fantastic property for people that holiday with dogs. We have stayed in many properties that accept humans and dogs. Pebbles works brilliantly for dog owners. The garden is totally secure, yep, totally. Very rarely even with properties that have an enclosed garden are they really dog proof. The garden is a very ‘clean’ area which reduces the amount of dirt that gets trampled in by dogs. The open plan living area with a sliding door to the outside makes it very easy to manage the dogs. If walking is your thing then you can enter the back garden by a side gate and hose down the dogs so they are clean before entering the property. Stair gates top and bottom ensure no rogue visits upstairs. We use gates at home so this was great to have in the property. There is plenty of room downstairs for our dogs’ crates without affecting the flow of the property so they can sleep how they are used to at home but our dogs are WCSs so crates for two labs might be a little tight. The human parts of the property have also been well thought out by the owners. The property is extremely well equipped. Plenty of crockery, cutlery and glassware. Some holiday rentals can be a little stingy but not at Pebbles. You could cook pretty much anything you wanted with the equipment in Pebbles. Here is plenty of space downstairs for a property of this size. The bedrooms are a good size and not cramped at all as can sometimes be the case with some holiday rentals. The welcome pack was very much appreciated. Especially the wine! Very nice touch. Croissants, milk, biscuits, tea etc all there for our arrival. The location of the property is very close to the harbour and beach but most properties in Portreath are. If Portreath is the sort of place you are looking for as a base for a holiday with your dogs you will not go wrong with Pebbles. One slight improvement, and it is the only thing I would change, would be a Dirt Trapper Mat by door to back garden for wet paws. We always travel with one anyway. We will certainly return to Pebbles in the future.

The cleanliness was good, however we found an empty chocolate wrapper and half eaten pack of Doritos under one of the beds.
A pair of oven gloves would be useful. On the second day of our stay I put a load of washing into the machine. The house manual had instructions for how to erect the clothes airer - I hunted high and low and could not find it. There was no washing line outside to hang the clothes on either. I phoned Sykes and asked if they could contact the housekeeper to find out where it could be found. I was told this would be dealt with on the Monday since it was a weekend. I phoned again on Monday and was told they would phone the housekeeper and that they would bring out an airer that day. It never turned up. I phoned again on Tuesday - and received a call to say the airer was in the downstairs cloakroom - which is was not. So I was told the housekeep would bring one out - it never turned up. At this point I just gave up. I had to use the tumble dryer to dry my several loads of wet washing during the week, which I was loathed to do, and would incur increased electricity costs. Some of my washing could not be tumble dried so I had to hang it on hangers all around the house. All around not a very satisfactory service from Sykes, which considering I had paid just under £2500 for a week, was very disappointing.

We enjoyed our time staying at the old bake house.
I have listed pros and cons of our stay. Lovely and quiet area with dog walks straight from the property. Excellent BBQ which we used regularly. Very comfortable beds in each room. Only a 15 minute drive into Wadebridge then a little further to either Rock or Padstow. Could not turn the shower in the en-suite temperature down. We would have appreciated a childâs/dog gate for the stairs. I looked for one but unable to find one. We had to improvise with some chairs. Although there was a gift of wine and a candle we would have really preferred some milk in the fridge, maybe some local biscuits. There is nothing in the house to get you started. Canât even make yourself a cup of tea. We stay in holiday cottages regularly and this is the only place we have stayed that didnât provide basics like this. So come prepared with basic essentials. Despite the cons we would stay at the Old Bakehouse again as it is a lovely place to stay.

The cottage was fantastic.
The location was perfect for exploring the southern tip of Cornwall on both north and south coasts. The facilities ticked all the boxes for us. Everybody had a comfortable bed, the kitchen was adequately stocked and thoughtful touches like milk in the fridge, flowers, a few dishwasher tablets, tea bags, and complimentary biscuits really made you feel welcomed at the property. We chose the property not only for the location but primarily as it offered a hot tub, we were looking for a bit of luxury. The hot tub was one of my favourites I've ever used and my favourite thing about the property, that and the view of the sun coming up from the sofa. The owners were quick to assist us to ensure we were using appliances correctly, heating and fire. A fabulous location, great facilities, great owners. We would definitely return. Thank you.
