What our customers say about their holidays
Stuart - Verified booking
We had a lovely holiday.
This was a very last minute booking. I was somewhat surprised to find anywhere in North Devon so late in the day. I was actually surprised and a bit anxious when I found this lovely caravan. I couldnât understand why it was the only holiday apartment still available. What could be wrong with it I thought. Actually there was nothing wrong with it. It turns out we were the first paying guests for the new owner (Abi) and this was a new listing. How lucky were we to find this absolute gem. There were three of us. Two adults and a 14 year old. The caravan had everything that you would need and more. Itâs the first van Iâve been in with a dishwasher! It was in a peaceful setting at the top of the hill. Set aside with only one other van and a house as your immediate neighbours. When you walk down the hill you will find a small clubhouse which is worth using if only for the stunning sea views. There is a beach only five minutes walk away. We used the caravan as a base as we had quite an activity filled week but honestly you wonât go far wrong if you rent this van. Also on site is a small outdoor pool. Abi left us a lovely card and some fudge and some basic essentials on arrival which was a very nice thought. (Gutted we left behind the card) Abi is a lovely host and she can not do enough for you. The only issue I would raise is this is not a suitable site for people with no car snd mobility issues as the hills up and down are very steep. Otherwise book with confidence. Sykes were very good taking the booking. It was very easy and the chap I dealt with was very helpful. Good luck and have a wonderful holiday. Stuart, Millie & Mason Budd

Beautifully maintained apartment, gorgeous high ceilings from a bygone era, furniture was very comfortable, especially the bed.
So important to have a comfortable bed when away from home. Lovely bathroom too, very spacious and clean. Good quality kitchen tools and equipment, the only thing I'd say was missing was a 'normal' frying pan rather than the wok styled pan. (We actually bring our own as we often find frying pans are not fit for use). A liner for the grill pan would have been appreciated, as it happens, we bring our own foil to do this with but some cottage owners do put a liner in the base of the grill pan. It was a real home from home as we spent all day Monday in the apartment as it was The Queen's funeral so a real test of homeliness. We also had to buy food to cook as there was nowhere open on Monday evening (due to Queen's funeral) so the grill and hob really did a great job. One extra dishwashing tablet would have been handy. The only thing we found 'odd' was the coat hook in the hallway - it must've been put up by a very tall man as my 6ft 2 hubby struggled to reach it and at 5ft 1 I had no chance! We liked the balcony too but didn't use it much. We rarely ever revisit the same place but if we were to revisit Ilfracombe we'd happily look to rent this apartment again. It feels spacious, homely and is very clean. Big tick!

Many thanks for a wonderful stay.
The cottage was in a superb location and we spent the week walking the coast path from Porlock to Ilfracombe. We were unable to get the televisions working or the video player but once we had established how to connect the cables, we found the signal so weak that we were unable to watch a programme. We realise is not the fault of the owners. We had no problems at all with the cleanliness of the property. Having lived in an old terraced cottage ourselves, we found the same issues at Harbour Cottage as we experienced at home: black sooty like dust escapes from the loft spaces and was to be found on the floors and surfaces in tiny amounts. We have no complaints about this at all - part of the charm of living in a period property and it was evident that the property is cleaned regularly and to a high standard. Thanks for the milk left in the fridge and tea/coffee. This was lovely as we had come on a long journey and arrived late at night. The outside spaces are lovely. A cream tea was enjoyed on the top terrace using the jam left by the owners. Thank you for a lovely stay. Kay and Neerose

Ochenta is in a quiet nook of the John Fowler site.
The site is hilly so beware! The grounds are well kept and there are good facilities and a Bar/Restaurant with stunning views. Ochenta was a perfect base for us to explore the South West Coast Path which was virtually on the doorstep. Combe Martin (the longest village England) has a wee Co-op and a great butcher/farm shop which stocked local produce. The caravan was spotless, had everything we needed and more. It was nice to have a good size fridge and freezer. At the end of the day, no dishes either as thereâs a full size dishwasher. The bed was comfortable with a walk in wardrobe so plenty of room for clothes. The shower had good pressure which is always nice after a day hiking. The wrap around decking was a great area to sit out on an enjoy the sun and surrounding trees. Communication with the owners was 100%. During our stay the cafetière broke, we managed to buy a new one from Tesco (6 miles away in Ilfracombe) and were paid via BACS immediately. Overall we cannot fault this accommodation and would not hesitate to recommend.

This was a fine, quiet place for my wife and me to spend nine days.
The cottage is clean and comfortable. On first arrival, the steep, bumpy track leading down to the farm is quite alarming, but one gets used to it in subsequent days. There's a good shower: plenty of hot water, steady temperature. The garden table & chairs shown in one of the photos is no longer there; it's been replaced by a makeshift table made from a cable drum, and some metal chairs. We did use this to enjoy breakfast in the open air - wonderful to be surrounded by birdsong, with the wide view over the valley in front of us. We were able to attend church - once in Combe Martin and once in Ilfracombe - and were made most welcome. The owners responded promptly and helpfully when we had an issue with the carbon monoxide detector; they also advised us about local walks. The house has a shelf full of books (mainly romances and thrillers), and I enjoyed one of these during the week. There are also a lot of maps and brochures with local information.
