What our customers say about their holidays
Drinda - Verified booking
The owner, Rosemary, is very good with communication the week before your stay.
I would definitely say follow her directions so that you arrive at the cottage via Chirk, as the road is so much better. Even if you have to travel 10 minutes out of your way to do so. On arrival we had to knock on the neighbour's door and ask them to move from the dedicated parking spot for the cottage.... not a great start. (Even though Rosemary said this might happen.) When entering the property there was an overwhelming smell of cigarettes. The property is advertised as non-smoking. We had to go out and buy air freshener to try and get rid of it. The bed that we slept in was very comfortable, and the room is very quiet, even though it faces out onto the lane, which can get very busy with vehicles racing up it. Be careful when stepping out of the door. You will need to keep your wits about you. For us, the property was centrally located for the area that we wanted to see. And if you get the chance, go and eat at 'The Swan ' fantastic food but be warned you will need to be starving when you go as the portions are immense!! 'The Raven' at Welshpool is also very good. Once again on our penultimate day, there was problems with parking. After a long day out and about the last thing you want to be doing is walking around the village trying to find the owner, who was subsequently sitting in the pub, and was too drunk to move his vehicle, so the landlord had to move it for him. Not only this, but at 1am they decide to start shouting about and using the hot tub. (Obviously another holiday let next door) For us, it put a bit of a dampener on our 'relaxing' week, but overall, it was ok. We did bump into a chap who was mowing the lawns who was very understanding to our parking plight, and we did have a laugh. A very nice local!

Our much looked forward Christmas break at this cottage was disappointing to say the least.
First impressions were good, nice views and cosy log burner. However, there were two main and significant problems. The TV didn't work properly so we were unable to watch any of the planned tv programmes we had been looking forward to. The screen kept displaying an error message which said 'weak or no signal, check your aerial and connection'. After contacting the host, he replied that the WiFi speeds were OK, but that the aerial may have been affected by a previous storm, and there was nothing he could do. All channels had the same problem. The biggest problem for us is that it took hours to cook our Christmas dinner. Even to pre heat the oven was a trial in itself, and it took hours to produce our meal. The owner's response was that it only runs on a 13amp fuse and isn't connected to a main wire so isn't as hot or powerful as a normal oven. In fact you can only use one shelf at a time! Surely this should be made clear at the outset and in the description of the cottage prior to booking. I don't think this cottage is fit for purpose for a Christmas break. The cottage was originally part of the owners house, which they sectioned off to make a stand alone cottage for holiday lets. Also , I would agree with other comments from previous guest reviews and an entry in the guest book which mentions that their child took a nasty fall, that the stairs are extremely steep, and I feel that this should also be mentioned in the description, since this could be a big problem for some guests. There is also a mini fan heater in the cupboard of the main bedroom which lacks a safety cut out function. So whilst I appreciate the gesture of biscuits and a Christmas card on arrival, I would much prefer to have had a good Christmas meal and a tv that worked.

The Chapel is an amazing building with several lovely features.
A functional space with enough equipment, instruction booklet, guides and tourist information easy to find on arrival. Wifi access straight forward. Bedding was clean and the views from upper windows was great. Water pressure is excellent, especially if you enjoy a shower as a wake up call! More information in relation to how to find the lock box would be useful, although the neighbour was very helpful (and it provides him with amusement watching people struggle to find it!). Some niggles: only 2 small sheets of toilet paper left in the whole property - luckily the Spar shop is just down the street and was open when we arrived, debris between sofa cushions, cobwebs and low level dust, sticky counter top in the kitchen, strong smell of fuel in foyer and outside front door, many cellar spiders and a visiting slug in the basement bathroom, damp patches, peeling paint and plaster - a nice property which could do with some TLC and attention to make it a GREAT property. They were small individual niggles which didn't ruin our break, although I do not believe that the high price of the booking is represented in the quality of the property. The style and layout of the property was well adapted. Suitable for us to use as a base for our sightseeing during our time in North Wales. The Glyn Valley Hotel was lovely and a dog friendly venue (also with a menu for dogs), with a good selection of both food and drinks for humans.

I start off by stating, we had a good holiday with Llangollen on our doorstep, and it was a good comfortable base to start from.
We could not park outside of the property, as the spaces were always taken, so parked just down the road, £4 per day, we had to purchase a ticket before 8am to be covered for the day. The doorknob to the property came off in your hand and does not screw back properly into the door. There are two televisions and neither are plugged into the aerial, so no television. We were advised by the tenant to bring our laptop to watch purchased tv apps, as they had a broadband box we could plug into. We have no tv apps. The place was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and a good shower over the bath. The water was hot and the property was a pleasant temperature. The kitchen area had all the things you needed, except the grill did not work in the oven. There was a combi microwave oven grill, which I have never used, so it would have been useful for a manual for me to work the grill. The garden area, was basically, somewhere to keep the bins, not somewhere you would enjoy sitting.

Cosy, clean, well maintained cottage set in a great location with stunning panoramic views of the valley beyond.
Off road parking and enclosed patio garden and every need catered for within the accommodation. There is a lovely woodland opposite the cottage across the lane, which was ideal for walks with our pooches! Visited for the first time the stunning Pontcysyllte Aqueduct near Llangollen where we walked across on the footpath high above the valley with breathtaking panoramic views below. Another first time visit for us was Plas Newydd historic house and gardens and enjoyed a nice coffee in the cafe courtyard where dogs are allowed. Another first time visit for us was Horseshoe Falls with local countryside surroundings to explore. Beautiful Llangollen itself is a must to visit which of course we did and the obligatory stroll along the path overlooking the river and great to see the famous steam train in action once again. We had a lovely restful few days here and highly recommend this cottage set in a beautiful location.
