What our customers say about their holidays
Nerjit - Verified booking
White goose cottage makes a good first impression, standards are good everywhere except the kitchen.
Lovely location, comfy sofas, slept well. Common self catering issues with mirrors too high, no sockets and tables near mirrors, not enough bedside lamps, tired furniture. Quite a few maintenance issues throughout which have been raised directly with the owner, nothing that would be a deal breaker. Although we had a pleasant week, we didn't have an acceptable start to our holiday, for that reason I would not return to this cottage, but I would return to this location. Having to spend our first night cleaning kitchen cupboards and washing anything we intended to use is a dealbreaker for us. Cracked, chipped, marked, dirty dinner sets, dirty glasses, dirty cutlery and dirty pans are completely unacceptable. Needs replacing or washing properly. Far too much stuff, cupboards so full you have nowhere to put your food. If there was less stuff, more empty cupboard space, it would be easier to wipe shelves between guests and check all items are clean. Some of the grime build up goes back weeks. Pity I can't share pictures! You'll have to trust me when I say you would not want to cook in those pans, eat off those plates, or drink from those glasses until you've picked out the best of the worst and put it through an intense wash cycle. I wonder if the areas we had issues with are areas that guests are given responsibility for and it really needs adding to the cleaners list (who did a very good job on cooker, fridge, freezer, and kitchen counters). Such a shame for the cottage to be let down and undervalued by something so simple to keep on top of.

Lanes Barn is at the end of the long pretty village of Glaisdale (11 miles from Whitby) on the main road through the village.
The pictures reflect the property, there is no real view as this is mostly hidden by the neighbours buildings. If you do not live in a rural location the sheep, hens and ducks are a joy in the fields next to the property. Internet is now at the property which will be a must for most guests. We were traveling with an 84 year old with mobility issues, so the large downstairs bathroom (really lovely) and bedroom was a real plus, with only a couple of stairs to the open plan living room area. The location is perfect for walkers, we are cyclists, but would not recommend cycling in this area unless you are a very strong club cyclist or have an electric bike. We would also assume you would need four wheel drive in the winter months. The property was very clean, well equipped with lots of hot running water. All the beds had very heavy winter quilts on, making sleeping very uncomfortable throughout the August week we visited. None of us slept well throughout the week, this was coupled with blinds which let the light into both rooms. The property needs blackout blinds/curtains to keep the light out of the rooms to aid sleep and summer weight quilts in the summer months. These two very simple issues to resolve, spoilt our holiday, as by day 7 we were all very tired from lack of sleep. Ilkley - West Yorkshire - Summer 2022

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and the apartment was lovely, quirky and nicely decorated.
To improve things the WiFi needs to be better as it kept dropping out. I expected condiments such as salt, pepper and sugar to be provided but we. Had to buy them. There was a scratching noise in the twin bedroom that we first thought was mice but it was nesting starlings that had got under the roof tiles. A heads up to the owner is that some of the flashing have failed in the window areas of the lounge and there is evidence of damp. The vinyl is lifting in the bathroom and needs refitting. The toilet is difficult to use for anybody who is tall as it has very little leg room. The internal cladding is falling off internally and a section in the shower needs refining as it has dropped. Omh and a potato masher would have been useful. The noise from the arcade below was louder than we thought it would be but we were out most of the time so not a major issue, and you did warn us. I hope to these comments are of use to you. We would definitely use the apartment again and had a great holiday.

Fantastic property.
We adored our stay at 11 Church Street. Beautiful listed period house and had maximum comfort and everything we could possibly need. Beds and sofa very comfortable and house warm and great shower. The location is fabulous being right on the marina. No noise or annoyance from boatyard in fact it was an additional joy to watch what was happening. Double glazed bedroom windows and son delighted that he could see Whitby Museum. 5- 8 minutes walk from everything and no need to bring a car as the train arrivals and coach arrivals into whitby are very scenic and very easy to jump on a bus to anywhere. We did Staiths and RobinsHood Bay £2 ride every 30 minutes upto late at night. Supermarket also within 10 minutes walk. Hope we will return and will book 11 Church Street for sure. Loved it. The standard of house actually surpassed our expectations and attention to detail in kitchenware and textiles was appreciated.

There is a boat building yard directly opposite the propery, obscuring views of the harbour.
It can be very noisy from 8am until 6pm and can still ne heard with doors and windows shut. As the house is only a couple of feet from the road, and the road is narrow, it is virtually on the doorstep. This also makes parking to unload the car quite tricky as it is a busy road. I reslly do think your advertising should mention this. It is also a very dark house unless the sun is out in the afternoon. Fair enough, it's an old propery, but the photos used in your advertising show brightly lit rooms. I'm partially-sighted and good lighting is essential for me. Brighter/more lights? There is a faint smell of gas from the fire in the sitting room. Otherwise it's an excellently placed property for exploring Whitby, which we loved.
