Walk through the wrought iron gates, under the 400-year-old chestnut tree and down the secluded path to discover a majestic 13th Century castle filled with historical charm and beautiful contemporary style. Located in the heart of the Burgundy wine region, near some of France’s most stunning towns and sights, Château Bourgogne is a truly magical place to escape to.
It’s a wonderful story – starting as a dream when the devoted owners spotted the castle in an estate agent’s window in Paris. Since then they have put their heart and soul into the château’s sensitive restoration and what they have created is a unique, unpretentious yet luxurious place to stay which has retained so much of its rich historical past.
With origins date as far back as 1000AD; the main château was built in medieval times and used to protect local inhabitants during times of war. It has a long and interesting history with various owners, including a famous French actress and singer during the last century. There are historical features throughout such as the 15th-century steep staircases, thick stone walls, a library in the turret and the watchtower terrace overlooking the glorious grounds and countryside. You can enjoy listening to the grand piano by one of the original fire-places or dine by candlelight on the medieval table by the two roaring fires in the stunning living-dining room.
You will be greeted with a glass of sparkling wine as you arrive, then you can begin to explore your enchanting castle. There are ten bedrooms across the three upper floors, some of them en-suite and with original fire-places. Only the finest quality bedlinen has been used plus there is central heating and high speed Wi-Fi to add to the list of modern amenities. You can hire a chef to work in the immaculate kitchen or keen cooks will love the Lacanche range cooker to prepare a feast of local delights. A wine library is also available so you can purchase excellent value wines, carefully curated by the château's sommelier.
Step outside to the meandering grounds and find the wonderful eco-heated swimming pool or simply sip local wine by the terrace. Keen walkers can wander through the nearby forests whilst tennis lovers only need to walk into the village to hire a court, complimentary for Château Bourgogne guests.
This small ancient farming village is built around the castle, is a little hidden gem overlooking surrounding forest. You’ll find a shop selling essentials there, including fresh bread which you can pre-order for your stay. For a wider choice of boutique shops, supermarkets and excellent restaurants head to the medieval town of Noyers-sur-Serein (12km), one of Frances ‘plus beaux villages’, where you can walk by the river or have a leisurely lunch in this picturesque setting.
A little further are the two World Heritage sites of Abbey de Fontenay (30km) and Vézelay (40km) or take the high-speed train from Montbard (24km) to wonderful Paris in an hour for a day to remember for all the family.
You are of course in the heart of the real Burgundy with so many world-famous wines within an easy drive. You can spend a day tasting fine white wine in Chablis (36km) or head to the wine capital of the region, Beaune (106km) in just over ninety minutes. The château can arrange for a top-class sommelier, who has worked with world-class chefs, to spend time with you to advise you on the best vineyards to visits and wines to try.
There’s no doubt that in such a divine and historical setting, in the heart of beautiful Burgundy, you will create memories here with your friends and family that will stay with you for a lifetime.
The magnificent castle is located in a small village. Here you will find a small shop selling essentials such as cereals, meats, beers and wine as well as bread, which you should order the day before (you can set up a regular order for your stay).

Horse-riding is within half an hour and there are some stunning hikes in the area. Keen walkers can discover a druidic menhir in the nearby forests just 2km from the castle. Plus, golfers can choose from either the 9-hole course at Golf de Tanlay (30km) or the 18-hole course at Le Domaine du Roncemay (80km).

The charming medieval town is full of history with pretty squares and fascinating buildings dating back to the 13th to 19th Centuries. You can wander down by the river, watch artists paint and have a delicious lunch in the picturesque setting.
