About this property

On an elegant tree-lined street filled with grand homes, Villa du Bonheur is sure to bring happiness to guests wanting to stay in a wonderful Biarritz neighbourhood.

This early 20th century villa has been beautifully restored, not just its exceptional façade but also its stylish and cool interiors. There’s vintage furnishings, contemporary prints and eclectic fittings yet there’s a warm ambience across this trendy home.

Five bedrooms, each with its own bath or shower room, across the top two floors, offer ample space for a family or group of friends. Each room is styled individually with some of the lovely features including a rolltop bath, pretty Juliet balconies and an overall sense of comfort throughout.

Outside the enclosed gardens offer lawns, colourful flowering shrubs, space to lounge in the warm summer sun and an inviting heated swimming pool, with its own safety shutter, ideal when travelling with young children. Sip your Nespresso in the morning sun, relax in the afternoon shade of a tree with a good book then feast by the barbecue with family and friends in the evening.

There are neighbourhood restaurants and shops within a leisurely stroll or head a little further to downtown Biarritz to experience the vibrancy of this seaside town. Explore the grand beaches, dine in one of the excellent restaurants or try a spot of surfing that this town is so famous for.

Hire a car and discover idyllic Basque villages such as Bidart and Arcangues or head further inland to some of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ such as Ainhoa and Sare. The Pyrénées-Atlantiques really is a spectacular region with stunning mountain landscapes and amazing Atlantic beaches. On a grand street-lined street, just 2km from downtown Biarritz, Villa du Bonheur is in a fantastic location for exploring this region of south-west France.

If you arrive into Biarritz airport, it’s just a couple of minutes by car or a short taxi ride to the elegant house. There’s a lovely organic grocery around a ten-minute walk away as well as a supermarket 1km away. There are a few neighbourhood restaurants dotted around within a 20 to 30-minute walk or head straight into vibrant Biarritz, around 2km away, for some excellent cuisine.

The seaside town of Biarritz dates back to the mid-19th century when the aristocracy built their summer residences along this part of the coast, including the well-known Hotel du Palais, built by Eugenie, the wife of Napoleon III. She had spent her childhood holidays on the Basque coast and fallen in love with its landscape - the hotel remains a symbol of the luxurious lure of Biarritz.

The town’s most famous beach, La Grande Plage, (2.5km) is in the heart of the town. Walk along it to view some of the amazing Art Deco buildings which can be found around the city such as the Casino and Aquarium.

There are plenty of other beaches such as La Plage de la Cote des Basques (3.5km) to the south which has become a favourite for surfers or the stunning beaches of Anglet (4km) to the north, also loved by surfers from across the world. Indeed, the coastline surrounding Biarritz has become a surfing mecca with enthusiasts attracted to its 6km of coastline and there are plenty of surfing schools for all abilities and ages.

Biarritz is a paradise for golfers as well with various golf courses to choose from including the prestigious NAS Golf Chiberta (5km) with amazing ocean views as well as Golf Ilbarritz (5km) to the south near the fantastic beach of the same name, with many others within a short drive.

When dining out, there’s some excellent seafood restaurants in the Port des Pecheurs (3km), the former fishing port. Food-lovers, don’t miss the amazing market at the Halles de Biarritz (2.7km) including many wonderful Basque specialities such as touron (marzipan), locally cured ham as well as mussels and mushrooms.

For a change of scene, head to the city of Bayonne (8km) where you can walk around the narrow streets admiring the beautiful and historic architecture or walk along the river front. There are also some idyllic Basque villages inland to explore such as two of France’s Plus Beaux Villages, Ainhoa (27km) and Sare (26km).

Indeed, this whole region offers an extended range of outdoor activities, such as walking, horse-back riding, fishing, cycling, canoeing and many others including water-sports along the coast.Villa Interiors
