About this property

A gorgeous villa in an idyllic setting, Chez Marie offers guests the opportunity to embrace the beauty of Provence whilst experiencing high-end comfort just a leisurely walk (partially along country roads) from the heart of a charming market village, 11km from L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.

Once the childhood home of the welcoming owner, this stunning holiday villa has been beautifully renovated with grace and style. Downstairs, generous windows flood light into the open-plan living space whilst the contemporary kitchen leads out to a shaded terrace for al-fresco dining at its best. Four impressive bedrooms feature super king-size beds and private bathrooms whilst a cosy en suite twin can be found upstairs beneath the wood beams. Designer furnishings and works of art add to the splendour of this elegant villa and there is air-conditioning throughout.

Soak up the sun in the south-facing garden as you laze by the swimming pool, then prepare lunch in the magnificent pool house to enjoy under the towering pines. Take a stroll through the cypress trees and woodland, play a game of pétanque and create feasts using the Plancha-style barbecue, making the most of seasonal produce found at local Farmer’s markets.

Head to the nearby village for pretty fountains, restaurants and shops and appreciate its historic charm as you wander through its attractive lanes. L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue also awaits with its antique shops, waterways and Sunday morning brocante whilst Fontaine-de-Vaucluse offers exceptional surroundings for hiking, tree-top adventures, canoeing and kayaking.

Spend the day exploring the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Avignon, sample wine in the vineyards of the Rhône valley and visit atmospheric villages and towns steeped in history such as Vaison-la-Romaine and Orange. Then there’s the mesmerising landscapes of the Luberon, the lavender fields of Sault and the incredible foothills of Mont Ventoux, all quintessential experiences of this captivating part of Provence.

In the Vaucluse department of Provence, Chez Marie is located a leisurely stroll from a typical Provençal village around a 30-minute drive from Avignon.

Surrounded by pine forests and other villas dotted around, you can reach the local village in around 20 minutes on foot via country roads (no pavement) or it’s just a short drive. It’s such a charming place to spend time, much-loved for its fountains, beautiful architecture and weekly market showcasing the best regional produce including strawberries, cherries, pears, almonds, melons and asparagus. Look out for the seasonal Wednesday evening Farmer’s market as well.

The Sunday morning market in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (11km) is also a delight, especially its atmospheric brocante, one of the best in France. On any day of the week, spend time exploring the small town’s waterwheels, little bridges, antique stores and galleries. Continue to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (16km), the source of the Sorgue river and an idyllic place for canoeing, kayaking and other outdoor adventures.

There are so many other characterful market villages and towns across the Vaucluse as well as ample opportunities for hiking, horse-riding and cycling. Head to the foothills of Mont Ventoux and visit Bédoin (22km), a mecca for cyclists, or travel slightly further afield to Sault (45km), especially beautiful during lavender season.

The Luberon region of Provence also awaits with some of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ such as Van Gogh’s beloved Gordes (25km), idyllic Ménerbes (30km) and the red-hued perched village of Roussillon (37km). Cycle or hike through landscapes of orchards, woodland and vineyards, sample AOC Luberon wines and dine in atmospheric village restaurants with the most stunning views.

Avignon (27km) is another fine day out, set on the banks of the Rhône and home to two unesco World Heritage sites, the Palais des Papes and Pont d’Avignon. Food and wine lovers will adore the numerous markets, wine-bars and restaurants scattered across this small historic city in Provence.

Very comfortable villa, the beds were so big with high quality sheets, it was just like in a hotel but in an amazing house. Pool area was so great too.

The poolhouse and terrace let us make the most of the Provence sunshine. The house is even more pleasant thanks to its beautifully tended garden.
