Guests say

This summary has been generated using feedback from guests who have stayed at this property

Shroughan is a well-appointed, comfortable cottage praised for its tranquil setting and modern furnishings. Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness, warm welcome, and scenic views. While some guests mention issues with garden enclosure and maintenance, the overall experience is positive, with many looking forward to returning.

Cleanliness

The property generally receives high marks for cleanliness, with guests noting it as clean and well-equipped. However, one review mentions cleaning issues, such as remnants of previous occupants' food and dog hair, which slightly lowers the score.

Location

The location is appreciated for its picturesque countryside and proximity to amenities, though it is noted that it requires driving to the nearest village. The scenic setting is a highlight, but the lack of safe walking routes at night and the need for a drive to the village slightly affect the score.

Comfort

Guests find the property comfortable, with modern furnishings and a warm atmosphere. The house is described as spacious and well-equipped, contributing to a comfortable stay. Some suggestions for additional amenities are made, but overall comfort is rated highly.

Facilities

Facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable furnishings. However, guests suggest improvements in kitchenware to support larger groups and mention ongoing development and debris on the property. The lack of an enclosed garden as advertised also impacts this score.

There are several beautiful beaches around the area, and the village is home to the Samhain International Poetry Festival each year. From Gortahork, Glenveagh National Park is easily accessible for a great day out, and with 16,000 acres, it is a walker's paradise. The renowned artist Derek Hill bequeathed his house and gallery near Glenveagh along with his art collection to the nation in 1980, attached is Glebe Gallery and tea rooms which hosts many exhibitions. For a day's relaxation head to nearby Bunbeag which has a swimming pool and a spa area or An Chuirt Hotel which lies at the foot of the Errigal Mountain and has its own health club and spa. Island-hopping is fun for all the family, and from Gortahork, you can charter a boat and visit Arranmore, Cruit Island and Owey Island. Cruit Island is joined to the mainland by a bridge, so is easily reached by car, but chartering a boat is much more exciting!
