Gapple Cottage is highly praised for its stunning views, peaceful and rural setting, and warm hospitality from hosts Anne and Pat. Guests appreciate the cosy atmosphere, well-equipped kitchen, and thoughtful touches like fresh eggs. While most find the cottage comfortable and charming, a few note minor issues with comfort and maintenance.

Cleanliness

The cottage consistently receives compliments for its cleanliness, with multiple reviews mentioning it being very clean and immaculate upon arrival.

Location

The location is celebrated for its beautiful rural setting and scenic views, though it is noted that access is via a narrow, windy road and a bumpy track, requiring careful driving.

Comfort

Comfort is generally well-regarded, with cosy beds and a warm environment mentioned. However, one review suggests the furniture could be more comfortable and the mattresses might need upgrading.

Facilities

Facilities are mostly appreciated, especially the well-equipped kitchen. Some maintenance issues are raised regarding the heating system and stove, suggesting room for improvement.

Thoughtfulness

Guests frequently mention the thoughtful gestures of the hosts, such as providing fresh eggs. While these gifts are warmly received, it should be noted that such personal touches, though common, are not guaranteed.

About this property

Rathmullan 5.9 miles. This charming, traditional detached cottage is in an isolated position between Rathmullan and Milford. Offering breathtaking views of Lough Swilly, this cottage is a perfect retreat for couples or a family looking to completely get away from it all. Set all on the ground floor, there is a spacious kitchen with a dining area which is a cheerful space to enjoy a hearty breakfast before heading out into the countryside. The sitting room has a multi-fuel stove which keeps the cold at bay and provides a cosy room to retire to in the evenings. Completing the accommodation are two charming double bedrooms. Outside you will find a gravelled area with a lawned garden where you can see the countryside stretching for miles to the lough and hills in the distance. This is all the inspiration you need for you to pull on your walking boots and get out there to explore. For an evening out, head to the seaside village of Rathmullan where there are a choice of restaurants and pubs including the award-winning Rathmullan House. You can also have a go at some watersports on Lough Swilly or test out your swing at one of the golf courses on the shore. For a day out, Glenveagh National Park is a must. You will find Glenveagh Castle and Gardens and a number of different walking trails to enjoy. This delightful cottage is an ideal choice with a number of activities on offer in the area.

Nestled on the shore of Lough Swilly on the Fanad Peninsula, the quaint village of Rathmullan has a colourful history. It was from here that the last of the Celtic chieftains fled Ireland, now known as the Flight of the Earls, and there is an interesting heritage centre in the village commemorating this vital event in Ireland’s history. This sleepy seaside village offers a variety of local shops and pubs and a long sandy beach ideal for lazy days.
