About this property

La Piazzetta is a charming family home built into the rocks overlooking the Tyrrhenian sea and La Maddalena islands below. This spacious villa is the ideal base for your trip to the North of Sardinia, an island with delicious food, a wealth of cultural attractions and a stunning coastline.

As you enter this home, which is all on one floor, you will approach a living room with comfortable seating which flows through in to the dining room. These bright and airy rooms are a great social space with doors and windows out to the garden and incredible sea views. With a fully-fitted kitchen, air conditioning in the living room, Wi-Fi and TVs, you will have everything you need for a comfortable stay with friends or family. There are 3 bedrooms to choose from to retire to after a busy day, including two double bedrooms, one of which is en-suite and a single room.

With fantastic weather year-round, you will want to be outdoors as much as possible and there is a beautiful garden at La Piazzetta. Firstly, you will notice the uniquely shaped swimming pool moulded around the rock, which is the ideal spot to take a refreshing dip. There is also a covered al-fresco dining space with a barbecue and, of course, lovely views of the sparkling sea below.

When you wish to visit the beach, there are plenty nearby to choose from. The closest, Porto Rafael, is a mere 600m away from the villa! This is a small sandy bay close to the village and marina of Porto Rafael which is just a little further up the coastline. Here you will find more beaches as well as a selection of restaurants dotted around the cobbled streets.

The town of Palau is just 4km away and features more stunning beaches including the Blue Flag awarded Palau Vecchio beach which backs on to a park with lots of shady spots for a picnic.

The Bear Rock, a vast sculpture which sits 122 metres above sea level on a rocky outcrop is another key site in Paula. You can also visit Capo d’Orso lighthouse, which is a great place to walk to in the late afternoon. As it is still a working lighthouse, visitors can see it light up as the sun sets. Palau also has a thriving historic centre, markets and lively bars so there is lots to see and do here. From Palau it is also possible to take a 15-minute boat ride over to the Maddalena Archipelago. This is a collection of 7 main islands and over 50 smaller islands, with countless unspoilt beaches which are protected by a national park. Take the boat to just one island for the day or book on to a boat tour which stops off at a few different locations on the islands. If you would like to visit the city of Olbia, which is at the start of the famous Costa Smerelda and is packed with archaeological sites, then you can drive there in around 45 minutes.

Located just minutes away from a superb range of beaches, towns and a golf course this villa is perfectly situated for getting to know Northern Sardinia.

One of the main attractions of this area is of course the glistening coastline which can be seen from the garden. The closest beach, Porto Rafael, is under 1km away and is a lovely sandy spot for sunbathing and taking a dip in the clear water. There are a wealth of beaches nearby, from sweeping sandy ones to tucked-away swimming coves, so you will always find one that you and your party love.
For unspoilt beaches then visit the protected islands of La Maddalena Archipelago which can be accessed by boat from the town of Palau which is 4km away. Most people tend to visit some of the 7 main islands, though there are almost 60 islands in total! Book on to a boat tour and you will be able to snorkel in tiny coves only reachable by boat and see the celebrated pink beach on Buddeli island. For something a little different, make sure to stop on Caprera island which is famous for being the home of revered Italian general and revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi, who lived there for 26 years. Today you can visit his former home to learn more about him and see many original artefacts.
As well as being the launch point for boat trips, Palau is a fantastic town to visit in its own right and is handy to have so close thanks to its large selection of cafés and restaurants. While in town you can hike up to The Bear Rock or the imposing fortress on Monte Altura and take in the breath-taking views or visit Porto Pollo Beach and try out some of the water sports on offer. Whilst wandering around the town, it is also worth paying a visit to the Ethnology Museum which has lots of information and artefacts on the history of the area. If you would like to do some shopping while here then Palau has a number of artisan shops and bustling markets which continue in to the evening.
A lovely place to visit for a day trip is Santa Teresa Di Gallura which is 25km away. Due to its proximity to the island of Corisca, this town has its own distinct culture and dialect as many Corsicans have moved here over the centuries. The town was actually built in the early 19th-century to stop smugglers entering Sardinia, but since then a thriving settlement has emerged. The Rena Bianca beach is one of Sardinia’s most beautiful beaches so is a must-see if you are visiting. Other attractions include the impressive Longosardo Tower which was built in the 16th century and the quaint churches dotted around the town centre. For dinner, head to a streetside restaurant off the main square, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele I, which is lined with pastel-hued buildings. You can even take a boat trip over to French Corsica from here which is just 11km away.
