Villa Lerizia is located in a quiet residential area just 8.7km from the centre of Alvor, 10km from the beautiful sandy beach, and a short drive away from Lagos. The historic city combines resort facilities with an introduction to the traditional side of Portuguese life. Relaxed and beautiful, the old walled city is a charming place to spend some time, and the marina and palm-lined promenade are pleasant spots for a bracing walk.

The eye-catching cliff formations of the Ponta da Piedade is one of the area's main draws, full of caves and grottos, are another big attraction. You can take a boat trip to see them up close, which is highly recommended. This area is also considered one of the best to see the spectacular sunsets the Algarve is known for, and there is plenty of wildlife to spot while you are waiting.

Numerous restaurants serving some fine Portuguese cuisine canbe found in Lagos, as well as friendly bars and even some clubs, although it is generally much quieter and safer than the larger resorts. The zoo is a big attraction for the children, and closer than the many water parks found in the region, although these are still within a reasonable drive of Lagos. You can head east and be in the next big city, Portimao, in around half an hour. It’s an attractive place with a huge amount to see and do, including top-notch shopping and a pretty riverfront area where exciting events regularly take place.

With a vast coastline that meets the powerful Atlantic Ocean, Portugal is a true paradise for the keen surfer, or indeed even those looking to try it for the first time, with plenty of surfing schools all along the calmer sections of the coast. And even for those less enamoured with surfing, the beaches of Portugal are well worth a visit for their beautifully clear waters.
