Located in the quiet town of Villalba, in the province of Badajoz, sits this rustic four-bedroom townhouse. Built-in the seventeenth century and renovated in 2018, the property mixes old-world charm with modern-day comforts to create an authentic Spanish retreat. The interior features terracotta clay-baked floors, earthy tones, and beautiful vaulted and arched ceilings.
On the ground floor, a dining room awaits. It's a good spot for the whole family to gather together and enjoy a meal at the sociable table. Attractive pendant lighting and a wood burner keep things cosy, but when the weather is good, you'll want to open the courtyard doors and let a warm breeze waft in. A compact kitchen overlooks the dining area, so you can still be part of the conversation while serving up a delicious meal. Afterwards, retire to the lounge and unwind in front of another wood burner. Also on this floor, you'll find a bedroom with a double bed and a separate bathroom. From the ground floor, stairs lead up to the first floor, where the three remaining bedrooms are located. Featuring two double beds and one twin, the rooms are minimalistic and light, with one featuring a simple en suite bathroom. There's also a separate bathroom on this floor.
Back on the ground floor, start the day with a coffee outside in the courtyard, then take a dip in the pretty yet compact swimming pool. The outdoor area is completely private and peaceful. It might be a rustic property, but it's a good place to switch off from the hustle and bustle of the world. And despite its quiet setting, it's a short stroll to the local supermarket and restaurant and a short drive to the natural wonders of Extremadura.
Casa Hermanas is located in Villalba de los Barros, roughly one hour by car from Badajoz, in Extremadura. An escape from the busy tourist towns of Spain, Villalba de los Barros belongs to the Tierra de Barros region. This region is famed for its reddish earth that is transformed into clay and used by local craftsmen. Their work can be seen throughout the town. The clay soils in Villalba are also fertile ground for growing vines and viticulture, which dates back to the Roman era. Sample a full-bodied drop at one of the many wineries close to Villalba, and during August and September, you can even watch the grape juice being transformed into wine.
Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy walking and cycling with plenty of trails in the area. For a leisurely stroll, make the 5-minute walk up to Villalba's ancient old castle tower, or pack a picnic and make the 40-minute walk to the reservoir. The reservoir is a tranquil spot, and you can spend the day spotting migratory birds, splashing in the water, kayaking or fishing. After a day's activity, sit on the bank and watch the sunset over the distant town of Feria.
The historical town of Merida is also worth a visit. Just a 30-minute drive from the property, it is the capital of Extremadura and home to the most impressive and extensive Roman ruins in all of Spain. Discover the Teatro Romano, constructed in 15 BC, and marvel at its huge two-tiered stage, which still plays host to classical plays (July and August). Adjoining the theatre is the amphitheatre. It holds 15,000 spectators and opened in 8 BC for gladiatorial combats and fights with wild animals. Afterwards, be sure to stop at Mérida's Roman art museum and view the extensive Roman artefacts, including mosaics, frescoes, statues, and pottery. Other not-to-be-missed attractions include the Museo de Arte Visigotico and the Basilica de Santa Eulalia. With so many historical attractions in Merida, be sure to take your time. Merida's lively main square is a good spot to stop and enjoy some refreshments and tapas at one of the many restaurants. Alternatively, head to the Roman-constructed reservoir and cool off in the water.

The house is found in a central square of the village, but still it is a peaceful location. The house has been restored and decorated with an exquisite taste, which we spent the first day going through it and discovering thousands of details. The patio with the pool is a small oasis. The owners of the property are always attentive, making sure that our stay was more complete and enjoyable than what was expected. Without a doubt, they have been the owners that have put the most effort into their guest's stay than any other we have met during our travels. They even filled the fridge with local products or their own prepared food for us. This is undoubtedly a house with a lot of charm and highly recommended, so much so that we want to return at another point during the year when the weather is a bit cooler.

The house is very nicely designed and decorated, with a very recent refurnishing and with all the possible details included. It also has a pool which is really nice. The owners were so friendly and available to help or recommend things. The breakfast was excellent.
