On warmer days, why not make dinner an alfresco affair and savour dinner out in the rear, enclosed garden as your pooches run and play? You can also spend a lovely afternoon at the National Trust's Wimpole Estate, home to a grand hall and surrounded by perfectly manicured gardens. Take the short drive over to Fen Drayton, where wildlife enthusiasts will have found their haven at the RSPB Fen Drayton Lakes which stretches for 25 miles. Continue onto Little Paxton, where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Paxton Pits Nature Reserve or spend a day enjoying the delights of the Southlake Aqua Park. Further afield you will find the thriving city of Cambridge, where you can tour the prestigious university and its picturesque University of Cambridge Botanic Gardens, wander The Fitzwilliam Museum, soak up the rich architecture of the Gothic chapel at the King's University College or the 16th-century Great Gate at St John’s, and end the day with your favourite tipple at The Cambridge Gin Laboratory. Between Papworth Everard and Boxworth, there's a charming picture-postcard village called Elsworth. Reverend W. Awdry, the author of the Thomas the Tank Engine stories, once lived in the area. The Fitzwilliam Museum, the Kings University College with its Gothic church, the Cambridge University Botanic Garden, and the Cambridge Gin Laboratory are all within easy reach of the town.
