Overlooking the green and set in the very heart of the popular village of Bourton-on-the-Water, which is famed for its series of low stone bridges spanning the River Windrush, this semi-detached, period cottage, built in the 1690s, (next to the village sweet shop), has bags of character with a feature inglenook fireplace, beams and low ceilings in some rooms. There are plenty of sightseeing opportunities including the model village, Cotswold Motor Museum, Birdland and perfumery. Fishing can be enjoyed on the owner’s lake ½ a mile away (at a cost of £7 per day). There are many individual shops, cafés and restaurants to enjoy, as well as a gentle stroll by the water’s edge.
Other nearby honey-coloured villages that are well worth a visit include Upper and Lower Slaughter, Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh with its famous Tuesday market, and Chipping Campden. The city of Gloucester, with its magnificent cathedral and tomb of Edward II, is within easy reach, as is the Regency town of Cheltenham with its famous racecourse. National Trust properties abound, including Snowshill Manor, Lodge Park and Woodchester Park. For horticultural enthusiasts there is Westonbirt Arboretum, Kiftsgate Court and Hidcote Manor. Shops, pubs and restaurants are within 50 yards.
