Hard Day's Night is a well-received cottage, praised for its comfortable furnishings, well-equipped kitchen, and dog-friendly garden. The adjacent pub and village amenities add to the charm, and the location is ideal for exploring Rutland and Leicestershire. Some guests noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance, but the overall sentiment is positive, with many expressing a desire to return.
The majority of guests found the property to be clean and well-presented. However, there were several mentions of specific cleanliness issues such as unwelcome flies, a full vacuum cleaner, and dirty oven trays. These appear to be isolated incidents rather than a general trend.
The cottage's location is highly praised for its quiet village setting, proximity to a friendly pub with excellent food, and convenience for exploring the surrounding areas of Rutland and East Leicestershire. The presence of a village shop and the ease of access to local attractions were also appreciated.
Guests consistently report that the beds and sofas are super comfy, and the property provides a warm and cosy atmosphere. The enclosed garden is appreciated by dog owners. Some guests mentioned issues with heating and a need for better quality linen.
The property is well-equipped, especially the kitchen, and guests enjoyed the smart TV and PlayStation. However, there were several reports of maintenance issues such as problems with the heating system, a non-functioning TV, and a full bin on arrival. The garden's maintenance and the functionality of some appliances were also brought up.
While some guests missed having a welcome pack and basic provisions upon arrival, which is a common courtesy in holiday rentals, there is not enough information to determine if this is a standard practice for this property or an occasional oversight. Therefore, a score cannot be provided.
Resting in the pretty village of Tilton on the Hill, Hard Day’s Night is a 300 year-old former skittle alley, which has recently been converted into a delightful home. This stone-built, semi-detached cottage is Grade II listed and with exposed beams throughout, Hard Day’s Night is a charming honey-coloured base from which to explore the beauty of the Leicestershire countryside. Its location close to the county border makes it ideally situated to explore all that England’s smallest county, Rutland has to offer and yet the City of Leicester is less than half an hour’s drive.
You are greeted to the property by off-road parking for two cars, before you step into the open-plan living space where you can grab a spot on the sofa and take advantage of the Smart TV or the DVD player, cook up a storm in the stylish and well-equipped kitchen for guests to enjoy around the dining table or head out of the bi-fold patio doors and enjoy the south-facing garden with a barbecue and furniture so you can indulge in some al fresco dining. The ground-floor also boasts a cloakroom with WC, handy laundry facilities and a double bedroom with its own en-suite shower room, making ground-floor living possible for those who need it. Climbing upstairs there is a spacious landing with a dressing table so guests can get ready in style and a double bedroom with a TV for a bit of wind down time in the evening. Flowing through, there is a second landing also with a dressing table, so each bedroom has their own spacious spot to get ready for an evening out, as well as another double bedroom and a bathroom with both bath and Rainfall shower. Hard Day’s Night is just a stone's throw away from the village shop which is perfect for grabbing any essentials and even more conveniently, the delightful cottage is adjoining the Rose and Crown pub so it’s just a short walk to enjoy this charming little pub’s range of excellent value traditional pub grub. In one direction, you can take a short drive into the town of Oakham where children can enjoy feeding the animals at Rutland Farm Park, and there is also a train station, a museum, playgrounds and a 12th century castle. Also in this direction is the Rutland Water Nature Reserve which is home to a thrilling aqua park, a golf course, Rutland Falconry and Rutland Zoo. There is cycle hire, boat rental and other water sports and 26 miles of paths to explore around the reservoir. In the opposite direction, you can explore the thriving city of Leicester which has a captivating cathedral, plenty of interesting museums and galleries including the National Space Centre, a go-kart track and the Flip Out indoor trampoline park, as well as shops, bars and eateries to spoil you for choice. The lovely market towns of Uppingham, Market Harborough and Melton Mowbray, famous for the Pork Pie, are all around 20 minutes away from your base in Tilton on the Hill. There are also many attractive villages nearby and a host of farm shops and cafes offering outstanding local produce. Hard Day’s Night is a stunning, comfortable home with all modern conveniences, which has been created from a quirky old building in the heart of this friendly village.

It had lots of additional details such as shower mat in the bath and grab handles as the bath sides are quite high. My elderly mother was able to manage the stairs as they were carpeted and well spaced. Ample storage in the bedrooms with sockets and side lights aplenty. More than enough crockery and cutlery plus many utensils to cook up a storm.

E. the national space centre and Rutland water etc. The pub next door were so friendly and the food was lovely and the shop carried the basics we needed. Would be an ideal place to meet up with family or friends as big enough to not feel on top of each other. Would book again

Perfect parking with easy road access and simple to travel around. The Rose and Crown next door is also great, lovely food and atmosphere and still really quiet at night. Conâs - needs a good clean. Cigarette butts in the garden, fingerprints on light switches, dusty skirting boards but the worst are the ovens. Neither cleaned with dirty trays (so we had to clean one oven and the trays ourselves) and the door on the bottom oven doesnât close properly (potential health and safety issue?). The other problem is the linen provided, towels too small, no hand towel in the upstairs bathroom and the bed linen was quite tatty. For example, the sheet on the bed in the room next to the bathroom didnât fit and kept rising up. We did love the cottage and enjoyed staying there. If both the cleanliness and linen were sorted, the cottage would be superb rather than pretty nice.
