Ipswich is also nearby and boasts its own waterfront on the River Orwell it is full of bars and restaurants such as The Gallery and Mariners to name a few, you can also visit Ipswich Museum or Christchurch Mansion Art Gallery. Colchester, a lovely town with a castle, museums, a zoo, excellent sports and leisure facilities, a cinema, great shopping, and good restaurants, is only nine miles away from the island.  Ipswich, located a short drive away, is home to a fantastic shopping centre as well as many historical and cultural attractions like Christchurch Mansion and the trendy Waterfront marina, where you can enjoy wine at one of the many restaurants or take a cruise down the river.
