Grass Guards Cottage is a Lakeland farmhouse set in the rural village of Ulpha,13 miles from Coniston, perched high in the hills of the beautiful Duddon Valley. A perfect base for walkers, climbers, mountain bikers and families.
The farm dates back over 500 years and has been refurbished to provide luxury accommodation in this peaceful setting. Set a mile and half off the road, via the old forestry track, the secluded location not only offers peace and quiet, with just the noise of the sheep and the birds for company; it also offers an area with no light pollution that, on clear nights, reveals the most beautiful star filled skies. The front door leads you into the spacious open plan living area, complete with country kitchen, feature stone walls and old beams and a beautiful summer room. From here you can look out over the fells through the French doors which lead you out onto the patio. Upstairs there are two beautifully presented bedrooms, both with views over the valley and boasting en-suite bath and shower rooms. Outside the patio catches the sun throughout the day and there is a lawned garden area to explore.
Dunnerdale is a beautiful valley in the south west of the Lake District that sits between the Coniston Valley to the east, the Langdale Valley to the north and Eskdale and Wasdale to the west. The River Duddon winds through the valley passing the beautiful hamlet of Ulpha and Seathwaite. Take an afternoon stroll to the Newfield Inn, just 1.5 miles walk.
This is a truly magical property for a couple or small family looking for peace and quiet to recharge the batteries and immerse themselves into real Lakeland living.
Dating back to the 11th century, Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water. There is much to please the visitor such as a pretty, cobbled square complete with a splendid horse chestnut tree, enclosed by shops, pubs and homes, many of them Georgian in origin. The village provides an ideal base for a walking or climbing holiday, with ample opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the Duddon Valley and the quieter Lake District fells. Norman Nicholson, one of Britain's finest 20th century poets and William Wordsworth, both immortalised this area in their writing and poetry. The village was home to Branwell Bronte, brother of the Bronte sisters, for a short time. The Furness railway line runs from nearby Foxfield and makes for an ideal day out, travelling the west coast of Cumbria. Set amidst the charm of the Lake District and close to the sea, this attractive town makes an inspiring choice from which to further explore a magical heartland of silver lakes, lofty towering peaks and lonely, heather-clad moors.
