This summary has been generated using feedback from guests who have stayed at this property

The Rockery Suite in Cumbria & The Lake District receives positive feedback for its cosy charm, stunning views, and ideal location for exploring the countryside. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable bed, and the inclusion of a welcome pack. The open fire is a highlight, adding to the property's appeal. While some guests mention minor issues, the overall sentiment is one of satisfaction and a desire to return.

Cleanliness

Most guests found The Rockery Suite to be clean and well-maintained, contributing to a pleasant stay. However, a few reviews mentioned specific instances of uncleanliness, such as a dirty toilet, unwashed cooking trays, and dust, which slightly lowers the score.

Location

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to local attractions, and accessibility to walking paths and pubs. The scenic surroundings and convenience for exploring the Lake District contribute to a high score.

Comfort

Guests generally regard the suite as cosy and comfortable, with a particularly comfortable bed and warm atmosphere. Some guests found the bed too hard and the suite chilly, which slightly affects the comfort score.

Facilities

The facilities, including the well-equipped kitchen and the inclusion of firewood, are appreciated. However, comments about dated decor, a small TV, and maintenance issues such as a trip hazard rug and a fiddly television remote indicate room for improvement.

Thoughtfulness

The welcome pack is frequently mentioned and appreciated by guests, indicating thoughtfulness from the hosts. It is noted, however, that such gestures are subject to change and not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

The Rockery Suite is an attractive, one-bedroom first-floor apartment in Sawrey Knotts, an impressive mid-Victorian residence, set in three acres of landscaped gardens. Situated between Lake Windermere and Hawkshead, it is within walking distance of Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's spiritual home and museum. The grand building nestles into the rocky hillside, with cosy Rockery Suite tucked away at the rear of the building. It is ideal for couples wanting to escape the busy world for a while.

Climb the staircase and walk into your cosy and comfortable, dual aspect sitting room with dining area and admire the original window shutters, high ceiling and good-sized open fire with original marble surround, cast and tile inset. The fitted kitchen has every convenience for your stay. Your bright and spacious dual aspect bedroom has a king-size bed. You will find a pretty shower room nearby. The apartment has many delightful, personal touches and you will find a door at the rear for private access.

Walk half a mile to Lake Windermere’s lovely western shore and visit the intriguing Claife Viewing Station to admire panoramic views of the lake through coloured panels, before catching the ferry to Bowness to visit the Jetty, a modern museum of boats and steamers. If you fancy a more challenging walk, then why not hike up to Claife Heights with its dramatic views onto Lake Windermere and beyond. Visit Hawkshead to explore its historic Lake District church, where Wordsworth worshipped when he was boy at Hawkshead Grammar School, before browsing the shops and having a bite to eat at one of its excellent cafes and pub. Walk two-minute to the well-loved Cuckoo Brow with its bar and restaurant. At the end of your busy day, relax in the tranquil gardens with a favourite drink and enjoy stunning views towards the lake as it extends southwards, and towards Coniston Old Man in the west.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
