There are 2 cinemas, a Jazz bar and the Lake Cruises leave regularly from Waterhead, a great way to explore without driving. The tiny 'Bridge House' is one of the most photographed places here, sat on a bridge in the middle of the village. There is also the remains of a Roman fort, Galava. One of William Wordsworth's former family homes can be visited nearby at Rydal Mount & Gardens. His Grasmere home, Dove Cottage, is also worth a visit and only a short drive away on the scenic A591.
