This sumptuously refurbished ground floor cottage apartment forms part of a traditional colour-washed gentleman’s residence and has many original features dating back 400 years. Located at the foot of Loughrigg Fell in the hamlet of Clappersgate, its a short stroll from Ambleside. The spacious lounge has oak beams, original panelling, stained glass windows and the fabulous open grate and surround are complimented by luxurious soft furnishings and tasteful palettes for your comfort.
The fully fitted dining kitchen, has slate floors, with a large utility / laundry. There is one spacious bedroom with king size bed, a window seat and plenty of storage, and a fully tiled bathroom with power shower. There is a suntrap courtyard with fell views to the rear and garden furniture and a porch to the front with views to the south. Private parking immediately outside. Ambleside is a contemporary, characterful Lakeland village with a spectacular backdrop of Lake District fells. Ideal for walking, cycling or boating activities, it is also a lovely spot for contemporary shops, leisurely lake cruises, award-winning Lake District restaurants and cosy traditional pubs. There are 2 cinemas, a Jazz bar and the Lake Cruises leave regularly from Waterhead, a great way to explore without driving. The tiny 'Bridge House' is one of the most photographed places here, sat on a bridge in the middle of the village. Oh, and don’t forget our Roman fort, Galava. One of William Wordsworth's former family homes can be visited nearby at Rydal Mount & Gardens. His Grasmere home, Dove Cottage, is also worth a visit and only a short drive away on the scenic A591. You can also head over the equally scenic Kirkstone Pass to the beautiful Ullswater Valley.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
