Bridge Cottage is an attractive, traditional stone-built Lakeland cottage in the heart of Grasmere thought to date back to the 19th Century and had origins as a coach house or stables.
You step into an open plan lounge/diner, with family dining table, and views of the river and church tower. The cosy living area is good for relaxing and watching TV (please note no live TV available due to reception. However, viewing through the internet is fine, iPlayer, ITV player, Channel 4 etc or your own Netflix and Amazon TV) or listening to music. The fitted kitchen also has river and church views and has everything you could need to cook up meals from a hearty breakfast to a celebration dinner. The family bathroom is located on the ground floor, then upstairs to the two double bedrooms, one with en-suite of shower, WC and vanity unity with basin. There is a 3rd bedroom available which has bunk beds, ideal for children, please specify on booking either the two double rooms required or one double room and one bunk room. Outside there is a garage, for secure storage of bikes or canoes. Parking is available for two cars on the gravelled driveway. Please note the hotel next door has a right of way across the driveway to access the courtyard at the back of the hotel.
In the grounds of the Bridge House Hotel, and alongside the River Rothay you’ll be close to the famous St. Oswalds Church where William & Dorothy Wordsworth rest. You can literally step out of the front door and within seconds be shopping, dining out or enjoying a relaxing drink in one of the many highly regarded restaurants or traditional inns which populate this pretty village. The walk around Rydal and Grasmere lakes is easy and beautiful, or perhaps venture up Loughrigg terrace, or maybe up Silver How and Helm Crag. Rising behind the property is the impressive Fairfield Horseshoe - keen walkers will be spoilt for choice. Head out onto the scenic A591 and you can head north to Keswick, or south to Ambleside and Windermere. A truly central location.
Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
