The School House is a substantial detached traditional Lake District residence built in 1799, in a secluded setting at the southern tip of Lake Windermere with spectacular far reaching surrounding views, just a 5-minute walk from the National Trust’s Fell Foot Park, and the lake itself. Modern-day ‘school rules’ here are all about being able to relax and thoroughly enjoy.
The history and character blend effortlessly with modern day sophistication making this Lakeland hideaway something very special. The mixture of slate and carpeted floors, oak beams, picture windows and the warming wood burning stove set in an inglenook fireplace are complimented by sumptuous furnishings, 21st century 5-star bathrooms and chic bedrooms. The large breakfast kitchen is a sociable place, with doors opening out onto the patio and garden. The entrance hallway leads into the drawing room with wood burner, and then into the conservatory overlooking the garden, a great place to enjoy dining together, good wine and conversation into the night. With five comfortable bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, spread from ground floor to loft space for stargazing, so you can ensure your party has a bedroom to suit their needs, you’ll all enjoy feeling relaxed and pampered. Back to the ground floor is the games room complete with pool table. Outside are the gardens and woodland glade extending to an acre, with some beautiful vantage points and perfect for summer al-fresco living with furniture provided.
You can walk straight from the door, so why not leave the car behind, head to Fell Foot Park where you can wander by the lake, take part in water sports, have a swim, or jump on a Steam Cruiser and explore the lake, and other lovely villages such as Bowness & Ambleside. Just up the hill is Gummer’s How, a fantastic couple of hours walk, with views right up the Lake and further on, the Mason’s Arms a gastropub of great reputation in the area. The small hamlet of Newby Bridge is only a mile or so away, with a couple of great pubs with restaurants The Swan, and the Newby Bridge Hotel.
The thriving Lakeland village of Staveley is situated on the eastern fringes of the Lake District National Park and offers superb access to the whole region. The beautiful Kentmere Valley is just a short walk away and with the River Kent tumbling its way through the valley to Staveley, it is very popular with mountain bikers and walkers alike. Staveley Mill Yard is a former wood turning mill at the heart of the village, which is now a thriving tourist attraction with cycle hire and outdoor shops, artisan bakery, brewery and the renowned Wilf's Cafe. This complements the excellent range of amenities in the village, which include a variety of shops, two village pubs, craft shops, a children's playground, a regular bus service and a railway station. Close by, the bustling towns of Kendal, Windermere, Bowness and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including a ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The 'Windermere Steamboat Museum' displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the 'World of Beatrix Potter' in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Staveley is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.
