Hannakin Barn in Hawkshead is a well-loved cottage, praised for its comfort, beautiful garden, and ideal location for exploring the Lake District. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, cosy atmosphere, and thoughtful touches such as welcome gifts. While some minor maintenance issues and external noise were mentioned, the overall sentiment is highly positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.
The cottage generally receives high marks for cleanliness, with guests finding it comfortable and well-maintained. However, there were isolated incidents of dampness and slugs, which slightly affect the score.
The location is highly regarded for its proximity to Hawkshead and the surrounding areas, offering easy access to walks and amenities. The presence of a nearby car body repair garage causing noise was a drawback for some.
Guests find the cottage cosy and romantic, with good quality furnishings and a lovely garden. Some feedback on heating issues and the need for larger towels slightly impacts the comfort score.
The cottage is well-equipped, with a particularly well-stocked kitchen. However, guests have noted some maintenance issues such as problems with the heating, shower operation, and a leak under the sink.
While guests often mention and appreciate welcome gifts such as wine and chocolates, as these are personal touches and not guaranteed amenities, it is not possible to provide a score for thoughtfulness based on the available reviews.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.

The cottage is really well laid out and looked after. The kitchen is better equipped than my own and the whole cottage was cosy and warm. The only thing that could have been better is the upstairs loo seat. It really could do with some tightening/fixing. Apart from that everything was perfect. Many thanks!
Charles
Our only observations are 1. The seat on the en-suite toilet âtravelsâ 2. There is a water leak under the kitchen sink.
