Hawkshead Hall is a well-received holiday cottage, praised for its spaciousness, comfortable furnishings, and beautiful garden with a stream. The property's proximity to Hawkshead village and local attractions adds to its charm. Guests appreciate the festive decorations during Christmas and the thoughtful inclusion of amenities like a games room and a well-equipped kitchen, although some noted a need for additional cooking utensils and maintenance improvements.
Guests consistently describe the property as clean and well-maintained, with only minor suggestions for improvement. The property's cleanliness contributes positively to the overall experience.
The location is highly praised for its proximity to Hawkshead village, local walks, and attractions like Grizedale Forest. The scenic garden and stream are also appreciated, enhancing the property's desirability.
The property is commended for its comfortable beds and spacious living areas. However, some guests mentioned issues with heating and a desire for warmer indoor temperatures, slightly affecting the comfort score.
Facilities like the games room and large kitchen are well-liked, but guests have noted a lack of wood for fires, some maintenance issues, and a need for more kitchen equipment, indicating room for improvement.
While guests mention thoughtful touches like Christmas decorations and a well-thought-out selection of glasses and mugs, there is no mention of gifts, so it is not possible to score this category accurately.
Set in an acre of grounds, this character-filled residence sleeps groups of twelve with room to spare. Two reception rooms, glorious farmhouse kitchen, wood burning stoves and beamed ceilings give Hawkshead Hall the most welcoming atmosphere imaginable.
The first of the two reception rooms doubles as a handsome dining room with a table that extends to seat 12 hungry souls gathered for a splendid supper prepared in the nearby farmhouse kitchen. This room has a marvellous open fire and impressive French doors opening onto one of the many patios. The kitchen itself is a joy. The original range, sturdy farmhouse table and host of modern appliances make this the heart of the Hall. Somewhere to gather and chat while meals are being prepared and plans made for the following days. The second sitting room is as cosy as the first with its gas burning stove, magnificent views and comfortable sofas and chairs.
The bedrooms are spread across the upper two floors. On the first floor a king size room comes with en-suite power shower room, while two attractive doubles share the house bathroom with shower over the bath, basin and wc. Up to the top floor where two fun triple rooms have open beams, comfortable single beds and share a shower room with wc. The views from the top floor are some of the best in the whole of Hawkshead Hall.
Outside, guests have an acre of grounds and gardens to explore. Fabulous terraced areas are perfect for bird watching with a glass of wine or local ale, soaking up the sun and reading the papers. A detached sunroom/games room offers even more space to spread out, and its wood burning stove keeps away the evening chill. This annexe has its own shower room and wc, as well as pool table and table tennis. Why would one ever leave this glorious holiday paradise?
The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.

The rooms were huge, bright and airy and with comfortable beds. The kitchen was again very spacious with a table for 8 and is great for large groups to share a meal. Two living areas had plenty of chairs and things to keep the kids occupied with a TV. The games room has a pool table which can be converted in to a table tennis table kept the kids and adults busy and entertained. The garden and the little water stream running at the bottom of the garden was simply stunning and is under promoted. We will definitely consider coming back again.

Another great holiday . 4 adults and 6 kids. Plenty of room for the kids and the playroom with pool table is a great success. The stream at the bottom of the garden was redirected a few times! The dog was happy and had a great time chasing rabbits in the large and mostly secure garden. He did manage to escape into next door

We could not find what was setting it off. It would be helpful if the manual could say something about this, and I would like to know an explanation now if the owner could send, as we would likely stay again if we were confident if this happened again, we could fix it.
