Jenever Cottage in Ambleside offers a cosy and well-appointed retreat with a mix of modern and traditional charm. Guests appreciate its excellent location, with easy access to local walks and the town centre. The property's setting, particularly the soothing sounds of a nearby waterfall, adds to its allure. While some guests have highlighted areas for improvement, the overall experience is one of comfort and convenience, making it a desirable choice for a Lake District holiday.
Reviews indicate a generally clean environment, though some guests noted issues such as cobwebs and a dirty bathroom sink. The presence of old soap and a lack of thorough cleaning in some areas suggest room for improvement.
The cottage's location is highly praised for its proximity to local walks, the town centre, and the peaceful ambiance provided by the nearby waterfall. Its secluded yet accessible setting is a standout feature.
Guests have mixed feelings about comfort; some found the property spacious and the beds comfy, while others reported uncomfortable furniture and mattresses. The lack of sofa space for larger groups was also mentioned.
Facilities are generally adequate, with a well-equipped kitchen and modern wet room. However, several guests reported maintenance issues such as a slow shower, blocked drainage, and aged appliances, indicating a need for updates.

Jenever Cottage is a lovely three-storey property resting in the prestigious Falls area on the outskirts of Ambleside, Cumbria. Located in the heart of the Lake District National Park and with proximity to countless towns and villages for day trips, this home is a wonderful choice for to explore the tourist attractions of the Lakes. After a day of high-level fell walks, put your feet up in the first-floor sitting room, open up the balcony doors to let in the fresh breeze of the countryside, or take some drinks outside and enjoy the last of the evening sun surrounded by your loved ones. The kitchen/diner is appointed with everything you could need for a break away, including a washer/dryer if your adventures take off on a muddier route. Head to the second floor and discover the beautifully-presented bedrooms for you to rest in, along with a bathroom you can freshen up in ahead of your adventures. Outdoor enthusiasts will find many walks from the door and down the hill towards Stockghyll, an area of pretty woodland and cascading waterfalls. Ambleside is close by and retains a unique atmosphere whilst offering a range of independent shops, numerous cafés, pubs, restaurants and two cinemas for those rainy days. Take yourself further afield and enjoy the stunning scenery on the Windermere cruisers before jumping off and exploring the quintessential villages of Bowness and Ulverston. A stay at Jenever Cottage promises a delightful retreat, at any time of year.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
