Guests say

Chapel How is a characterful and well-equipped cottage in Ambleside, praised for its comfort, quirky features, and prime location. Guests appreciate the property's history, cosy living spaces, and modern kitchen. While some minor maintenance issues are noted, the charm and convenience of Chapel How make it a highly recommended stay.

Most guests found Chapel How to be spotlessly clean, contributing to a pleasant stay. However, a few mentioned concerns such as cobwebs and dust, which suggests room for improvement in the cleaning routine.

The property's location is highly praised for being a short walk from Ambleside's centre, offering convenience and stunning views. Its proximity to local amenities and attractions makes it an ideal base for exploring the Lake District.

Guests consistently report that the beds are very comfortable and the property is cosy, particularly noting the warmth and the quality of the living spaces. Some guests, however, found the stairs challenging and the seating low, which could affect the comfort for those with mobility issues.

The property is well-furnished with a new kitchen and bathrooms that guests find to be of a high standard. However, some guests reported missing kitchen utensils and issues with the oven and heating control, indicating that while facilities are generally good, there is some need for maintenance and better equipment provision.

There are no specific mentions of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, while the property is well-received, there is insufficient information to assess this category.

About this property

"This unique and historical Lake District character property forms part of a converted Grade II listed chapel, in the peaceful conservation area. Dating back to 1550, this romantic property retains its period features; arched church windows, striking exposed beams and a feature church pew in the dining area. You'll find arched windows, oak staircase and gothic-style doors, all beautifully renovated. Three decadent bedroom suites, including the truly special 'Belfry' bedroom finish off this unique place. The unique combination of original church architecture and contemporary luxury really has to be experienced to be fully appreciated. Nestled in Ambleside's historic conservation area, this luxurious cottage is just far enough from the crowds to be blissfully peaceful and quiet, but the within walking distance of several excellent Ambleside restaurants and traditional Lakeland pubs, shops, cafes and even a cinema and jazz club. A few minutes from the village is the shore of Lake Windermere at Waterhead, with lakeshore pubs and cafes, stunning lake views and of course the opportunity for a cruise on Lake Windermere - a great way to explore Bowness or Lakeside without taking your car. Ambleside is a great base for your day trips throughout the must-see areas of the Lake District. Head north past Rydal Water to historic Grasmere; a world-famous Lake District village surrounded by the poet William Wordsworth's favourite landscapes. Visit his former home at Dove Cottage, and explore Beatrix Potter's farmhouse at Hill Top."

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

We enjoyed our stay and would consider staying there again, the property has everything you need. I think our only gripe is the parking, the spaces are all on a slight angle (there is plenty of space) the neighbour however opened their car door onto ours and have left a reasonable dent in our door, if you park there I'd suggest getting in nice and close to the wooden poles just to allow plenty of space for the other car to open there doors.

The property was full of creaky character and charm. The large bath was great for a soak after some long walks too. The property was tucked away, near enough for a short walk into town for food and drinks in the evening, but far enough away to remain peaceful. Thank you.

It is unique with the “honeymoon suite” in the tower (fantastic views) and quirky especially the creaky stairs. A downstairs cloakroom would have been appreciated to avoid the latter. The cottage is beautifully furnished and the kitchen extremely well equipped. However a second tv may be useful if there are 6 guests (we were only 4). We had issues finding roadside parking locally and all the car parks involve a hill climb to return to the property. Ambleside is the perfect location for accessing so many tourist attractions and you are spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants. Thank you
