Guests say

Ghyll Heights is a well-received cottage in Ambleside, praised for its spaciousness, comfortable beds, and well-equipped kitchen. Its location is appreciated for proximity to town, despite a steep hill. Guests enjoy the luxurious feel and cleanliness, though some noted minor issues with maintenance and a musty smell in lower areas.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Most guests found the property clean and tidy, with comfortable beds and well-maintained rooms. However, a few guests mentioned areas that could benefit from additional cleaning, such as windows and ornaments, and one noted a cleanliness issue upon arrival.

The property's location is highly praised for its convenience to Ambleside and nearby attractions. The picturesque setting next to a stream and the proximity to walks and the town centre are highlights, though the steep hill may be challenging for some.

Guests generally find the cottage comfortable, with luxurious furnishings and spacious rooms. The beds are particularly commended for comfort. Some guests mentioned a musty smell and a cold basement room, suggesting room for improvement in overall comfort.

The property is well-equipped with kitchen amenities and offers good Wi-Fi. However, several guests reported issues with maintenance, such as a non-functional balcony and a musty smell in lower areas. These points suggest that while facilities are good, there is room for better upkeep.

While some guests appreciated the welcome pack provided, there is not enough consistent information about thoughtful gestures such as gifts to accurately score this category. It should be noted that such amenities are subject to change and not guaranteed.

About this property

This modern riverside cottage, part of the contemporary Falls development, stands alongside Stockghyll Waterfalls and enjoys fabulous views from its own private balcony. The property is just minutes from the heart of vibrant Ambleside with its host of restaurants, outdoor shops and boutiques. Zeffirellis cinema, pizzeria and jazz bar is a treat not to be missed, and the adorable house on the bridge offers a lovely photo opportunity.

A short stroll from the village and you will reach Waterhead and Lake Windermere. Guests cannot miss the opportunity to take a cruise across the water to Bowness or Lakeside. The picturesque village of Hawkshead is a short drive away, with Hill Top and the Grizedale Forest a little further on. A car ferry crosses back to Bowness making the perfect route around the lake.

This property is beautifully presented and having two large bedrooms with private bathrooms, ideal for two couples sharing or a small family group. Ghyll Heights is arranged over three floors. On the lower floor is a lovely king size room and bathroom. A separate dressing room adds an element of luxury, and the outlook is charming. The entrance hall leads to the main living area and balcony with a view over the nearby waterfall. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped with everything needed to conjure up a hearty breakfast or evening meal. Upstairs again to the second of the two king size rooms with en-suite bathroom. Total privacy in a charming location.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Please get a qualified electrician to check the switch wiring and to make sure the metal wall box is correctly earthed.

We found it very suitable for two couples having the bedrooms on upper and lower floor. Good comfortable bed and nice bathrooms, kitchen and bedrooms. Plenty of hot water. Found the lounge a bit dated and could do with a larger coffee table and a couple of footstools. As we opened the front door we were surprised to find a stained rug going into the lounge which didn't give the right impression of the property. Ambleside is a very charming town and lovely shops and eating places. Beautiful place to visit.

The electric heated clothes airer was great for drying the washing. Parking is easy and the cottage is in a great location for walking into Ambleside central or accessing the roads out of town. Check in as late as 4pm is a bit of an annoyance.
