Stones Throw Cottage in Ambleside is highly praised for its prime location, cleanliness, and comfort. Guests appreciate the well-appointed kitchen, comfortable beds, and the property's suitability for families and pets. The cottage's layout across four floors offers ample space, and its proximity to local amenities and walks adds to its charm. Some guests suggest improvements for outdoor spaces and note the challenge of parking at the rear.
The majority of guests found the cottage to be clean and well-maintained, with only a few isolated comments about minor cleanliness issues such as under sofas and chipped mugs. The overall impression is that the property is kept to a high standard of cleanliness.
The location of Stones Throw Cottage is consistently lauded for being central and convenient, with easy access to shops, restaurants, and walking paths. Its position in a quiet road despite being close to town is particularly appreciated.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, with ample space for families. However, some guests mention that the heating can be uneven, with the kitchen being cold at times, and the mattresses in some rooms being too hard.
The cottage is well-equipped, with a kitchen that's great for board games and family meals. However, there are recurring comments about the need for maintenance, particularly in the bathrooms and outdoor areas. Parking is also noted as a challenge, with the rear space being very tight.
Unfortunately we’ve been unable assess this category comprehensively enough based on the reviews we’ve received from guests about this property.
A well planned and generous cottage for larger family or group, Stones Throw Cottage is moments from the heart of lively Ambleside with its cinemas, restaurants and interesting shops.
Through the lovely garden and into the oak floored hallway, guests will be delighted to spread out across two charming sitting rooms. The first of which has a slate fireplace, superb views out towards Loughrigg and comfortable leather furnishings. The second is home to the woodburning stove and gives access to a terraced glazed balcony, this time with views of Fairfield. The luxury kitchen with dining area is downstairs, and benefits from a useful utility and separate washroom with basin and wc. This family area is a sociable space, somewhere to enjoy a family meal and somewhere to read the papers over breakfast or sit and chat. Stones Throw Cottage has plenty of room for parties to spread out and do their own thing.
Back to the hall, and stairs lead up to a luxury bathroom with bath and power shower over. On this floor is a magnificent double room with super king size bed. This can be separated into twin beds on request. Alongside is a second room, this time a twin. It’s then up to the final two bedrooms, both king size and with en-suite power shower rooms. The views from these two bedrooms are particularly impressive.
Outside is a garden with seat bench, and a drive with parking for one car. A parking permit allows a second car to park on the lane by the cottage. Stones Throw Cottage, with its flexible accommodation and lively location, is the perfect property for a mixed group. There is something, and somewhere, for everyone to enjoy.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
