Guests say

Thyme Out is a well-regarded cottage in Troutbeck, praised for its stunning views, peaceful surroundings, and beautiful interior. Guests appreciate the property's ideal location for walking and the cosy atmosphere. While some maintenance issues and cleanliness concerns are noted, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.

The cottage received mixed feedback on cleanliness. Some guests found it very clean and comfortable, while others noted issues with dust, cobwebs, and a damp smell in one of the rooms. There were also comments about kitchen cleanliness and bathroom odours, suggesting room for improvement.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, beautiful views across the valley, and proximity to local walks and pubs. It is considered an ideal spot for a peaceful retreat and for exploring the Lake District without needing a car.

Comfort levels are generally high, with guests finding the property cosy and the beds comfortable. However, some guests mentioned issues with sofa comfort, shower pressure, and temperature control, slightly detracting from the overall comfort experience.

Facilities are well-regarded, with the property being equipped to a high standard. Nonetheless, guests reported maintenance issues such as non-working extractor fans, a broken gutter, and a lack of kitchen essentials like large saucepans and cutlery. These issues indicate a need for better upkeep.

While guests mentioned welcome packs and found the property to be generous and well-presented, there is insufficient information to determine the consistency of these gestures or their impact on the overall experience. Therefore, a score cannot be provided, and guests should note that such amenities are not guaranteed.

About this property

Take a spell of Thyme Out in tranquil Troutbeck! One of the finest settings in the Lake District surrounds this stunning Lakeland cottage, slate-built and with the most glorious garden to take advantage of those incredible and uninterrupted fell views. A paradise of peace in a magical place!

Impeccably presented, Thyme Out is a designer treat, perfectly put together for our Lakelovers and themed with a restful décor that complements the green and peaceful landscape in Troutbeck. The epitome of a chic, modern country cottage, the authentic old-world charm of this rural retreat has been lovingly preserved while ensuring that contemporary quality has been implemented to exacting standards.

Outside, the garden is a true delight, leaning lazily against the slopes of this beautiful valley, planted with gorgeous shrubs, and benefitting from a lovely level grassed area and superb sun-trap patio. From here, the views across the valley to the rugged hilltops are simply breath-taking, and many happy hours can be spent out here just taking it all in.

If you want to eat out or spend a lazy afternoon in a fabulous beer garden, the Mortal Man Inn is pleasingly close by, and the Queen's Head is too, another fantastic authentic Lakeland pub serving tasty fare.

Below you in the valley, Troutbeck Tongue is a small fell that makes for great walking, with panoramic views of the higher summits from its top, and you can also choose to walk over the hillsides to Ambleside or over the rough Garburn Pass to remote Kentmere. There are a host of lower level walks, and with Bowness and Ambleside in easy striking distance, there is always something new to discover. Don't miss a leisurely day on the Lake Windermere Steamers!

Troutbeck is a real rural community, seemingly surviving from a bygone era, and Thyme Out is a terrific space in which to slow down and stop the clocks for a while!

The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of destinations such as Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Troutbeck is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.

Review of Thyme Out: We enjoyed our week, the weather was particularly kind, the walking was good and the garden area was very pleasant, But: 1.The freezer was so iced up, the door would not close properly. 2.Midweek, the boiler switched of mysteriously (no hot water) and only the persistence of the called out maintenance engineer rectified the reason. 3.The radiators, apart from the first day (a rainy one) would not adjust up in temperature, as they should as indicated in the instructions book. 4. The gas fired stove in the lounge area had a note attached 'Not in Use'. The inlet pipe outside is cut and capped so not working for every guest. Again referenced as working in the Instructions Book and Website. Disappointing. David

Both Sykes and the owner were incredibly helpful and responsive in arranging the booking for us and we were absolutely delighted on arriving at this property. It was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated / furnished, comfortable and the views from every window were incredible. We feel incredibly fortunate to have found Thyme Out and will definitely return. It really turned a potentially very disappointing holiday into a very relaxing and enjoyable one. Thank you.

There are plenty of walks and the old post-office is a nice stop off for tea and cake with the mortal man for food and drinks.
