The 555 bus stops in the village for trips to Kendal and the Lakes including Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick. For something different, meet the exotic animals at the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis or enjoy a spot of bird watching at Leighton Moss or Foulshaw Moss nature reserves. A few miles from the beach community of Arnside, Milnthorpe, a former significant mediaeval market town, is situated in the South Lakes between Kendal and Carnforth. The town's old buildings and narrow streets, which speak of a time when a coach and four was more typical than a four-wheel drive, may still be found today.
