About this property

Perched in the popular destination of Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria, is this fantastic second-floor apartment, Bowness Central. Enjoying a superb location within the Lake District National Park and just a stone’s throw away from Lake Windermere, Bowness Central is an idyllic choice for a couple or even two friends sharing. Look forward to whipping up something tasty in the well-equipped and contemporary kitchen/diner, featuring well-fitted appliances and a breakfast bar, perfect for enjoying a celebratory bottle of fizz. As the evening draws in, retire to the double bed where you can select a much-loved film on the Smart TV as the evening’s entertainment; or if you don’t want your night to end there, freshen up in the stylish shower room before heading to the local pub or restaurant. From your doorstep you can appreciate all the Lake District has to offer, whether it’s soaking up the vistas from the viewpoints of Orrest Head and Queen Adelaide’s Hill, immersing yourself in the rich history at the Windermere Jetty Museum and the World of Beatrix Potter or trying you hand at a selection of watersports on offer at Lake Windermere. Travelling onto Grasmere, trek through Rydal Cave, admire the breath-taking views from Rydal Mount and Gardens or tour the former home of the great poet, William Wordsworth. Further afield you will find Kendal, home to the museums of Kendal and Quaker Tapestry, the excellent Kendal Golf Club and splendid Kendal Castle as well as an abundance of pubs, independent stores, and eateries where you can rest and recharge while exploring. Treat your other half to a fabulous stay in Cumbria with a stay at Bowness Central.

To the west of Carlisle, in the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is the village of Bowness-on-Solway. Hadrian's Wall runs 73 miles from the village to Wallsend, which is close to Newcastle, and is designated as a "National Trail." The village features a pub and a tearoom. There are many viewpoints and lay-bys that are ideal for spotting the waders: oystercatchers, curlew, golden and grey plover, lapwing, knot, dunlin, bar-tailed and black-tailed godwit, redshank, and turnstone. The surrounding area is rich in bird life that visits the sand dunes, salt marsh, shingle beds, and peat mosses. Between Bowness and Annan in Scotland, a rail line known as the Solway Junction Railway was established in 1869. It connected to the Maryport and Carlisle railway. In 1875 and again in 1881, ice build-up caused damage to the iron girder viaduct that spans the river and is 1 mile and 176 yards long. It was fixed, used as a passenger train until 1914, when it switched to being a freight train until 1921, and was eventually destroyed in 1934. Market town Wigton and city Carlisle are well-liked destinations for shopping, bars, and restaurants nearby. In addition, Wigton features a theatre and a weekly market that is held every Friday. Silloth, a Victorian beach resort, is 16 miles distant, and it takes 40 minutes to drive to Keswick to reach the centre of the Lake District. a fantastic starting point for exploring the Scottish Borders and Cumbria.

All you need for a short stay was in the apartment and fittings to a very high standard. Possibly noisy in the warm weather with windows opening directly over main pedestrian street. No information provided in the apartment which was a shame, particularly for first time visitors to the area, so make sure you do your research before arrival.

It was great to be so near Lake Windermere, local transport and local shops. We had a fantastic time here, and would loved to have stayed longer. All amenities were available and it was a really lovely experience.
