Tanna Hill is a well-received cottage with stunning lake views and a spacious, well-equipped setting. Guests appreciate its cleanliness, comfortable furnishings, and the convenience of its location, despite the steep approach. The property's charm and grandeur, alongside modern amenities, make for a memorable stay. Some maintenance issues are noted, but they are overshadowed by the overall positive experiences and the property's picturesque setting.
The property generally receives high praise for cleanliness, with most guests finding it immaculate. However, a few guests noted issues with kitchen cleanliness and outdoor areas, slightly lowering the score.
The location is highly regarded for its amazing views and proximity to Bowness, with the steep hill being the only minor drawback mentioned by some guests.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the property spacious and cosy. Some guests mentioned hard pillows and an uncomfortable sofa, but these are infrequent comments.
Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and good amenities. Criticisms include unreliable Wi-Fi, dated decor, and some maintenance issues, which affect the score.
Unfortunately we’ve been unable assess this category comprehensively enough based on the reviews we’ve received from guests about this property.
A spacious and bright property close to the lake shore and centre of lively Bowness village. With three double bedrooms (one which can be converted into a twin room), Tanna Hill makes an ideal holiday home for a group of friends or family. And don’t forget that two pets can come along too. The sloping drive and outside area has parking for up to three cars.
The upside-down layout makes the most of stunning views, as do the balcony and raised patio with BBQ and ample outdoor seating. Who can resist the joy of al-fresco dining in the summer sunshine? Thanks to large windows facing out over the wonderful scenery, the sitting room is light and airy. A feature fireplace, with gas fire, adds a cosy charm when the sun goes down, as do the lovely leather sofas and chairs. When the sun is high, sliding patio doors can be opened wide onto the balcony from where the well-tended garden can be admired. The underfloor heating is a real treat during cooler months and the modern kitchen offers extensive cooking facilities as well as more of those fabulous views. This room has an elegant dining area with table and chairs positioned next to a large glass window. The bedrooms offer flexible sleeping arrangements, either as three king size/doubles or two king size/double and a twin. There are also generous bathing facilities for everyone.
Bowness is a wonderful location for families, lake-lovers, boating enthusiasts and those who just want to take life easy. The village is alive with interesting shops, excellent restaurants and cosy pubs. Lake Windermere is only a short stroll from Tanna Hill, and here a whole host of activities are on offer.
The vibrant twin towns of Bowness and Windermere hold enduring appeal for visitors to the Lake District National Park, with each providing a range of nearby attractions, amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes. A variety of boat trips and boat hire are available from Windermere Lake Cruises in Bowness to Brockhole, Ambleside and Lakeside (at the southern end of the lake where the Lakeside Aquarium and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway are situated). The World of Beatrix Potter attraction and the Old Laundry theatre are 1.5 miles away. Orrest Head, where Alfred Wainwright was inspired to write his series of iconic guidebooks, is a 30-minute walk to enjoy the spectacular panorama of far-reaching views over the lake and surrounding fells. Brockhole, which offers high wire tree top experiences, is less than two miles away, and the historic villages of Grasmere, Ambleside and Troutbeck are a short drive away. There are also a variety of watersports on offer for the more energetic at marine centres along the lake. The area is ideally situated for exploring all that this region has to offer, whether by foot, bike, car, railway or bus; and is within easy reach of attractions such as the spectacular Langdales, Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top House at Far Sawrey, Coniston, Grizedale Forest Park, with its delightful walks and famous outdoor sculptures, mountain biking and “Go-Ape” adventure park, Ullswater, Kendal, Keswick, stone circles, Roman forts and England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike.
