Fellside Cottage in Windermere receives high praise for its prime location, cleanliness, and charming character. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches, including welcome gifts, and the cottage's proximity to local amenities. While some mention minor issues with heating and maintenance, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many keen to return.
Reviewers consistently mention the spotless condition of the cottage, with special commendations for the cleaning staff. The high level of cleanliness contributes significantly to the guests' enjoyable experience.
The cottage's location is frequently highlighted as perfect, being quiet yet within walking distance to Bowness, the lake, and local amenities. This convenience is a standout feature in the reviews.
The majority of guests find the cottage cosy and the beds comfortable, with some noting the comfiest sleep. However, a few guests mention issues with heating and an uncomfortable mattress, slightly affecting the comfort score.
Facilities are generally well-received, with the cottage being well-equipped and beautifully presented. Some maintenance issues, such as water pressure and heating control, are noted, which impacts the score.
Guests are delighted by the thoughtful gestures, such as welcome packs and the provision of essentials. While these are highly appreciated, it is noted that such personal touches, although common, may vary and are not guaranteed.
A gloriously romantic, traditional Lakeland cottage only a stone’s throw from the heart of bustling Bowness. The owners of this property have undertaken a superb renovation, retaining the cottage’s original features and complimenting them with fine furnishings and appliances.
The sitting room at Fellside Cottage is a haven of comfort and charm. Old oak beams and lintels, feature fireplace with woodburning stove, welcoming leather sofa and generous armchair make this a room guests won’t want to leave. A pretty picture window with window seat is a place to sit and daydream. The kitchen with breakfast bar is planned to perfection, while for more leisurely dining a table and chairs occupy a half landing and garden room with doors to the patio garden and outside area with stone-built summerhouse.
Upstairs the beautiful bedroom with hand-painted furniture and gloriously comfortable King-sized bed is set off by a pretty picture window which floods the room with light. The separate bathroom is stylish and modern, with shower over the bath, basin and wc.
While the cottage brings a sense of peace and solitude, Bowness itself offers a wide choice of independent shops, restaurants and coffee bars. The Royalty Cinema and Old Laundry Theatre showcase a cultural side to the village, while sport fanatics will find plenty of opportunities to make the most of the lakeside location. Windermere Golf Club is only a few minutes away, and a car ferry regularly transports visitors across the lake to Grizedale Forest.
The vibrant twin towns of Bowness and Windermere hold enduring appeal for visitors to the Lake District National Park, with each providing a range of nearby attractions, amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes. A variety of boat trips and boat hire are available from Windermere Lake Cruises in Bowness to Brockhole, Ambleside and Lakeside (at the southern end of the lake where the Lakeside Aquarium and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway are situated). The World of Beatrix Potter attraction and the Old Laundry theatre are 1.5 miles away. Orrest Head, where Alfred Wainwright was inspired to write his series of iconic guidebooks, is a 30-minute walk to enjoy the spectacular panorama of far-reaching views over the lake and surrounding fells. Brockhole, which offers high wire tree top experiences, is less than two miles away, and the historic villages of Grasmere, Ambleside and Troutbeck are a short drive away. There are also a variety of watersports on offer for the more energetic at marine centres along the lake. The area is ideally situated for exploring all that this region has to offer, whether by foot, bike, car, railway or bus; and is within easy reach of attractions such as the spectacular Langdales, Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top House at Far Sawrey, Coniston, Grizedale Forest Park, with its delightful walks and famous outdoor sculptures, mountain biking and “Go-Ape” adventure park, Ullswater, Kendal, Keswick, stone circles, Roman forts and England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike.
