Set within 28 acres, the extensive grounds of the owners’ home and equestrian land look out across beautiful meadows and woodlands to the rear. Fowler Studio provides stylish accommodation for up to six people. On the ground floor is a spacious bedroom with kingsize bed and optional sofa bed, and the vaulted ceilings and Velux windows make this a light and relaxing room. Through to a large open-plan living/dining space and compact kitchen, equipped with a two-ring hob, electric oven and microwave grill for cooking. Upstairs the galleried bedrooms have vaulted ceilings, exposed stone walls and glass balustrades, making this feel like a cosy space to retreat to. It is accessed by paddle stairs and a second spiral staircase, not suitable for less mobile guests. On the ground floor, the owners’ have designed a superb dressing room for all guests with plenty of storage and hanging space, and areas to sit and get ready. There is a stylish family bathroom with a double walk-in shower.

Outside, guests can enjoy an enclosed courtyard with garden furniture to sit and enjoy a morning coffee or glass of wine. For later in the day and the warmer weather, stroll across the paddock to the secret garden which is set with furniture to sit and enjoy the views across the meadows.

Out and about there are walking and cycle routes from the door. Take a route through 5 acres of woodland and a short 2-mile walk into Heighington village and enjoy the hospitality at the village pub. The cathedral city of Durham, a World Heritage Site, can be reached within a 20-minute drive. Tourist attractions include the Lumiere Festival, jazz festival, book week, arts week, the Gala Theatre, castle and cathedral, as well as many designer boutiques, shops and with an excellent choice of places to eat and drink.

Within easy reach are Barnard Castle, the North East coast, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Lake District National Park and the Northumberland Coast. For the outdoor enthusiast, cyclists, ramblers and leisurely walkers will find many walks and cycle paths suitable for all abilities. Hamsterley Forest is a delightful 2000-hectare site with popular walking trails, including the Gruffalo Trail, as well as cycle trails, orienteering and plenty of spots for a picnic
