General cleaning good however kitchen works surfaces were sticky and no matter how much we cleaned them this didn’t change the quality of the worktops. Hosts unapproachable and unwelcoming

The location is great especially for walking and not far from a number of attractions, such as Raby Castle, Bowes Museum and Hamsterley Forest . The owner was lovely and helpful. Probably the nicest cottage I have been in.

The cottage is perfectly located to explore local walking opportunities, or use as a base for travelling the area. In an hour you can be in the centre of The Dales, or in the other direction walking on Hadrian’s Wall. Local amenities include an excellent Fish & Chip shop, or again travelling a little further the facilities of the market town of Barnard Castle. After a busy day, returning back to the cottage the hot tub is a real bonus. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Stables, and look forward to staying there again.
