West House in Barnard Castle is a well-loved cottage, praised for its cosy atmosphere, stunning views, and convenient location close to local amenities and walking paths. Guests appreciate the warm hospitality of the owner and the well-equipped, clean, and comfortable facilities. The property offers a peaceful retreat with a touch of home comfort, making it a popular choice for those seeking a relaxing stay in the Yorkshire Dales.
Guests consistently mention the spotless condition of the cottage, indicating a high standard of cleanliness. The property is described as welcoming and very clean, contributing to the overall positive experience.
The location is highly praised for its beautiful countryside views, proximity to local shops, pubs, and walking routes. Its setting near the Pennine Way and waterfalls adds to its appeal, although one mention of a hill climb for those with limited mobility slightly impacts the score.
Comfort is a strong point, with guests finding the cottage cosy, warm, and inviting. The presence of comfortable beds and a wood burner adds to the overall comfort. However, one mention of a cold dining room due to heating issues slightly lowers the score.
Facilities are generally well-received, with the cottage being well-equipped and maintained. However, there are some concerns about heating issues and doors not fitting properly, which suggests room for improvement in maintenance.
The owner's thoughtfulness is evident through mentions of a welcome pack and attentive service. While such gestures are appreciated, it is noted that these are not guaranteed for every stay.
An early 18th century, stone-built, semi-detached cottage, situated on the outskirts of the delightful village of Middleton-in-Teesdale, just 10 miles from Barnard Castle. Boasting outstanding views of the surrounding fells, West House is full of charm and character, offering a quaint sitting room with cosy woodburning stove, a separate dining room and a spacious rear garden, ideal for sitting out and enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the area. This is a good base for those wishing to experience village life with all the local shops, pubs and village walks just a short stroll from the property, whilst the nearby market town of Barnard Castle with its cobbled streets and quaint lanes attracts visitors all year round. With the Northern Dales waiting to be discovered slightly further afield, this lovely cottage is ideal for family and friends to get away from it all!
