About this property

The Sewing Room is a beautifully restored property in the heart of arty Alnmouth Village. Once home to a famous writer who referred to the property as 'The Sewing Room', this gorgeous retreat is the perfect bolthole for 4 guests. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, the living space is open plan giving a social and light and airy feel. There is a little courtyard at the front and access is shared with the main house, Carriage House, situated on the main street. The Sewing Room is set behind the main street, hidden away with privacy from all car and foot traffic. Electric 'wood burning effect' fire. Free Wi-Fi and digital guidebook.

A Secluded Retreat near the beach in Arty Alnmouth

The Sewing Room in Alnmouth is part of a beautifully restored Georgian Grade II listed building, which was originally a carriage shed for the main house, accessed via the cobbled alley. In more recent years the outbuildings were converted to form The Sewing Room – a writers’ hideaway, where a famous local crime writer composed some well-known novels.

This gorgeous holiday cottage in Alnmouth has been lovingly renovated to create an idyllic retreat, nestled in a secluded courtyard offering a relaxing hidden bolthole, positioned to the rear of the main street. Internally, original features have been retained, including internal beams and timbers, and external original stonework. The sympathetically designed interior has a light, contemporary coastal styling in keeping with the architecture. The open-plan living space creates a homely, sociable vibe.

The Sewing Room is just a five-minute walk from the beach, where you can explore seven miles of golden sands. The quaint, friendly fishing village boasts an excellent art gallery (which also hosts different types of local ‘street food’ throughout the season), several cafes, a delicious deli and three pubs, all with restaurants, and Alnmouth village is home to the ‘oldest 9 hole golf course in England’.

The Sewing Room sleeps up to four guests and is ideal for a couple, two couples holidaying together, or a small family. Pet friendly too.

We have had a wonderful time, guilty that we’ve not been as active on walks, etc as we could have been, but very chilled! Hope to be back again soon!

Our third week of our Scotland and Northumberland adventure has been wonderful. Highlights included revisiting Beamish, The Alnwick Garden, and a cruise out to the inner and outer Farne Islands. We have really enjoyed staying here.

Our favourite things: BBQ beach day, The Whittling House cocktails, trail adventures (buy from the post office for £5), the walk from Craster via Dunstunburgh Castle to The Ship Inn (Kipper Pate!), and walk along Bamburgh beach heading north. Will be back again next year.
