The Old Newsagent's is a beautiful 18th century Georgian townhouse in the heart of the charming town of Alnwick, close to the Heritage Coastline. One of the oldest properties in Alnwick, The Old Newsagent's retains much character and charm, and great care has been taken to enhance the architectural features including the original shutters and sash windows. Refurbished and decorated to a high standard, the property boasts two kitchens; one country kitchen on the first floor which is perfect for rustling up a hearty breakfast and a fabulous ground floor kitchen with sleek cream units and everything required to produce a gourmet dinner. Steps from the kitchen lead down to the formal dining area, perfect for the whole party to get together for a celebratory meal. The fabulous bedrooms are situated over the ground, second and third floors and have a range of beds to suit most family members. The pretty rear garden is accessed via the first floor kitchen and is a lovely spot to sit with a cuppa and soak up the Northumberland sunshine. A short stroll from your townhouse will take you to the world famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens, a complex of formal gardens, fountains, poison garden and one of the world's largest wooden tree houses. Directly opposite is an excellent pub/restaurant serving top quality food and ales and a short walk will take you to the Alnwick theatre and a lovely Italian restaurant. From there, pass underneath the Bondgate Tower and you are in the centre of Alnwick which has lovely shops and enticing tea rooms. Further afield, venture into the Northumberland National Park and savour a day of walking or cycling around the beautiful scenery. Animal lovers will enjoy a day at the Northumberland Country Zoo, which is just a short and scenic drive away also. For a day of shopping, head into the city of Newcastle to explore the expansive high street, here you will also find an excellent array of pubs cafés and restaurants. A scenic drive will take you to the Heritage coastline with a wealth of long golden beaches and historic castles. Alnwick is an attractive and historic market town in Northumberland and is known for the dominating Alnwick Castle, the home of the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens opened to the public in 2002 and are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a magnificent treehouse, a delightsome rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films!

    It was in a great location for Alnwick Castle and gardens as well as other local attractions including Bamburgh Castle and Cragside. Barter Books, which is five minutes up the road from the house, is a definite must. The accommodation had everything for a comfortable stay. Thank you for a lovely week.
