Guests say

The Old Stables in Bamburgh offers a comfortable stay with its spacious rooms, high-quality linens, and warm atmosphere. Guests have praised the property's great location and the welcome hamper, although some have noted areas for improvement in maintenance and facilities.

The property generally appears clean and well-presented, with specific praise for its shiny and spacious appearance upon arrival. However, there are isolated reports of dirty dishes and carpets, and an instance of dog waste in the garden, slightly affecting the overall impression.

The location is frequently described as lovely, with the property being in close proximity to local sights and beaches. The peacefulness and quietness of the area are appreciated, although some guests mention road noise and the distance from the nearest pub.

Guests have consistently noted the comfortable beds and the cosy, warm environment of the cottage. The spacious living areas add to the comfort level, although there are suggestions for additional furniture and bathroom fixtures to enhance the experience.

While the property boasts a large kitchen and modern bathrooms, guests have reported issues with kitchenware, lighting, and heating. Maintenance concerns such as broken appliances and insufficient kitchen utensils have been highlighted, suggesting room for improvement.

The welcome hamper has been well-received, indicating thoughtfulness. However, there is insufficient information to determine if such gestures are consistent or to assess the overall thoughtfulness in providing amenities like soap, which was notably absent. Therefore, a score cannot be provided.

Resting in the tranquil hamlet of Warren Mill near Bamburgh in Northumberland, The Old Stables is a stunning stone-built cottage that offers spacious and immaculately presented accommodation, which is ideal for a family on holiday or a small gathering of family and friends. The property benefits from a ground-floor bedroom and en-suite which together with ramp access to the front doors, makes it ideal for those with limited mobility. The open-plan living space tastefully blends traditional cottage features with all the home comforts any discerning traveller would expect. A feature brick-built pillar housing a double-fronted woodburning stove forms a stunning focal point to the sitting area where you can imagine guests gathering together to socialise, get warm in the cooler months and chill out in the front of the TV. Step into the other half of the space, and you will find a sleek and stylish kitchen with everything needed to be able to whip up delicious food for the family party. The feature breakfast island is the perfect spot to keep the designated chef company while they lovingly prepare meals for the hungry guests. The adjoining dining area is intimate and inviting and is somewhere you can imagine spending many happy hours drinking, eating and socialising. The attractive gardens are ideal for spending time alfresco should the weather allow it and there is plenty of space for children (and any pets!) to run around while the adults can pull up a chair and relax. All rooms are bright and airy and offer a relaxing place to chill out after a hard day of getting out and about exploring. The property enjoys a superb setting close to picturesque Budle Bay with the town of Bamburgh nearby which has a good selection of shops and amenities as well as its infamous castle. Head off from here and carry on along the Heritage Coastline where you will find miles of sandy beaches, quaint fishing villages and breath-takingly beautiful castles. Other towns worth visiting in the region include Alnwick, Seahouses (just a few miles away) and you can even head to the border and visit the ever-popular town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Activities to look forward to in the area include golf, sailing (from Seahouses to the Farne Islands), birdwatching, hiking, cycle rides and horse-riding. A memorable holiday in tranquil surroundings awaits with a stay at The Old Stables.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.

Only minor complaints….for such expensive and complete bathrooms, to have less than one roll of loo roll, and no holders for the loo paper seemed a little odd. Also there was a pod coffee machine but no pods? Was that in the description? The large dining table was great, but pads on the bottom of the chairs would reduce the screaming noise each tiny move of the chairs…on all that expensive floor tiling. All else fabulous!
