Portland Cottage in Beadnell is praised for its excellent location, proximity to the beach, and well-equipped kitchen. Guests appreciate the comfortable beds and the inclusion of en-suite bathrooms. The property offers a range of beach equipment and has been enjoyed for family gatherings.
Most guests found the property to be clean, with specific praise for its spotless condition upon arrival. However, some guests reported issues such as dirty kitchen cupboards, dusty windowsills, and unclean shower heads, which suggests room for improvement in cleaning standards.
The property's location is highly regarded, with guests loving the proximity to the beach and local amenities. The ease of access to nearby restaurants and the seaside setting contribute to a positive experience, making the location one of the property's strongest assets.
Guests have complimented the property's comfort, mentioning huge, comfortable beds and a well-furnished living space. However, some guests noted issues with uncomfortable mattresses and heating problems, which slightly detract from the overall comfort.
The property is well-stocked with utensils, crockery, and beach equipment, but guests have reported maintenance issues such as leaking showers, problematic locks, and insufficient heating. These issues indicate a need for better upkeep and attention to facilities.
While some guests mentioned a welcome pack and the provision of beach equipment, there are inconsistent reports on the thoughtfulness of provisions such as toilet rolls and basic supplies. Due to the lack of consistent information on gifts or extra touches, a score cannot be provided.

This attractive and peaceful harbour village is situated beside one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland’s Heritage Coastline - Beadnell Bay. Established in Saxon times, Beadnell was once an important fishing village and a smuggler's haven. Nowadays, it is still a fishing village, but is equally popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour and, of course, the nearby sandy beaches. The village has a shop, two pubs and a café serving food. Popular Seahouses is just over a mile away and has shops, a supermarket and restaurants, and it also offers boat trips from the harbour to the magnificent Farne Islands - a haven for bird watchers. Bamburgh is close by, whilst the market town of Alnwick with its Castle and Gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants is a short drive away.

Excellent property overall - just a couple of comments (1) the patio doors so not lock/close from inside and requires maintenance (2) donât provide empty shower gel/shampoo containers in the shower rooms - either leave them full or remove

Had everything we needed, the only thing missing was a cheese grater. The only other issue was the limited number of toilet rolls provided. One per toilet for eight people seems a little short. The house was well proportioned with lots of space and the enclosed garden was a bonus. All the bedrooms were furnished to a good standard although the mattress in the bedroom with the balcony needs replacing.

The kitchen is well equipped. The living and dining areas are comfortable - the sofas could do with clean and spruce up. Arrived at the property not aware that the hot water had been switched off and the water was stone cold. Only found this out when we went to run a bath for the children. Iâm all for energy saving but a notice (a bit more apparent than the section in the house information folder) would have been appreciated. The driveway is very small and suitable for one car only. You can park on the grass verge opposite the property, however that might get tricky in peak season as people visiting the area to walk on the beach park there too. There is a notice telling guests to ensure their vehicle parked on the drive is not obstructing the bins early on Weds morning so that they can be emptied and threatening a significant charge. We complied, only for bin not to be emptied anyway! Bedrooms well presented, however the bed in the room with the veranda was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept on in holiday accommodation. We reported this, but never received a response from Sykes. The shower in the room with the bath did not produce any hot water at all, so those in our party sleeping in that room had to use the shower in the twin bedroom. Toilet in same room moved when sat on. The garden is pleasant and sunny - a washing line would have been helpful and would have saved energy by not using the tumble dryer. We requested a stair gate but were told there was not one available. When we got to the property there was one in the upstairs cupboard but couldnât be used as some of the fixings were missing. We requested that the travel cot was put up in the twin room but when we arrived we had to search and find it in a cupboard. We requested a high chair - we found that in the utility covered in dust so it needed cleaning before use. Wi-Fi was good. So overall my view is that you are paying a premium price for the location but property needs some tlc. Donât get me wrong, our party was mainly comfortable and we had a lovely holiday but just felt the whole overall experience was a bit below par.
